Once again we are back in the town of Stonehouse for another past and present mixture, and this was a shop that had many happy memories in the past. We are looking at a Mullins store, a brilliant haberdashery that sold everything you could want for the home.
Loads of materials were sold for making your curtains, no buying them off the shelf in those days. If you needed a new school uniform, this was the place to get it, even if you were making your own dresses or coats. Hats and coats were there to try on and your favourite cushions piled up in the corner.
In the old days they had a system where the counter staff would put your money into a container and it whizzed across the ceiling to the cash desk and your change would whizz back to the counter staff.
Today we have The Pizza Planet shop; it's just not the same and goes along with all the other 6 old shops that have now become food places along the High Street and Gloucester Street. Does anyone cook at home these days, bring back my past please.
Such a change in this comparison photos ! You do not hear the word Haberdashery often these days , but a much needed shop . When I first got married I spend such a lot of time in such a shop - choosing dress patterns , then material and accessories to make an item of clothing ! This shop also had the same pay system which kept happy my son in his pushchair while I was engrossed in my shopping !
