Adult Shelduck keeping a close eye on its chick. There only seems to be one chick left which considering they normally have around 8 - 10 eggs on the nest is not a good return.
I noticed something similar, Richard. I was on West Voe beach Wednesday night, and there were about ten pairs of Eiders.
One female was closely guarding two tiny ducklings, but they were the only young, from such a large flock.
