The Magnolia floral axis by louannwarren

The Magnolia floral axis

Once a week I gather the fallen floral axis that fall around our Magnolia tree, it’s good exercise because there are so many of them. I thought I would put one in this blue shot glass, for the circles challenge this month.
I have tons of these on my tree - never knew they were called floral axis. The challenge seems fun.

@kaylynn2150 we do too. I usually use a rake but have been picking them up individually just for the exercise. The things we do to occupy ourselves. Ha!

Interesting subject and use of a shallow depth of field to show it off nice shot Lou Ann:)

nice entry!

Can you grow a tree from one of those? They are quite unusual.

Lou Ann, are those after the blossoms or are they pre-blossom? I've always wondered.

I didn't know they had a name either. Good shot!

The Geraniums are in the sun from the morning until just after lunch when the sun shifts from my back yard to the front and then they're in shadow. They seem to like that arrangement!

@elatedpixie they are after the blossoms fall away.they fall off the tree constantly for a few weeks, it’s kind of a danger zone under the tree while they are falling. Ha.

@olivetreeann thank you, I think I will move mine to a place where they will have six hours of sun.

@happypat no, there are actually pine cone looking seed pods, full of seeds, those come next, Magnolias are always dropping something!

They are so large it must be easier to pick up than acorns would be! Still a lot of exercise!

A terrific shot with lots of detail!

You have the prettiest blue things - when I first saw the color come up I thought that must be Lou Ann's post. And I like the circle, too.

Very clever, and framed nicely by the rocks and pool.

@milaniet when antiques were popular I had some beautiful cobalt glass items. About 20 years ago I sold most of my cobalt pieces. I miss them. Thank you for your wonderful comment.

Love your blue glass! And the dof in your picture makes it stand out even more!

Well done, it looks fabulous.

do you collect them just to be tidy or do you do something else with them? Nice shot.

@pusspup I had gathered up hundreds that day and I just took one out of the pile to photograph. They are more of a nuisance than anything but I do think they are kind of elegant looking.
