This Rhino was peacefully grazing

so close to us, it was rather scary. They are so huge and obviously used to vehicles with people. I was surprised to see how many they had here. They are still being slaughtered all over for their horns.
Beautiful beast and a great photo!

Them being hunted to near extinction is appalling. Such magnificent beasts!

Amazing close-up! I can imagine it was scary. We went on a safari in SA too once and came scarily close to a buffalo, who was a lot bigger in RL than in photos!

So cool to see! What a great shot!

So sad that they are still being slaughtered for their horns. They are not pretty animals but those ears give them a quirky cuteness.
April 15th, 2021
it's hard to imagine actually deciding to kill one, let alone doing it
April 15th, 2021
Such an ugly yet fascinating animal
April 15th, 2021
Fascinating - have you seen any with their horns removed - I had heard that rangers did this in areas where there is a lot of poaching. I don't know if that's true or not?

Such an unusual looking animal... very large and quite scary. I agree with Susan that they have a quirky cuteness... I liked that description.

Like the composition with a negative space

A nice portrait of this beast. I just saw a headline that said the rhino population is increasing due to lack of tourism during the pandemic.

What a magnificent creature.

They seem so prehistoric. Really rotten that they are being slaughtered for their horns to feed some stupid superstition! Nicely done photo however.
April 16th, 2021
They are such huge animals
April 16th, 2021
They look pre-historic. Magnificant.
April 16th, 2021

Super capture. Nice of it to hang around to let you get he shot.
April 16th, 2021
Super capture! Were you in an open jeep when you saw the rhino?
April 16th, 2021
@robz Although I have personally not seen any Rob, the ranger was telling us about it. Many game reserves where the security was not as tight had to do it, such a pity and so sad :-(
@redy4et Yes we were in an open jeep Elizabeth, there were quite a few who just walked on the road and the ranger had to pass them. I suppose they are used to feeing safe there :-)
April 16th, 2021
So massive, and so loved and revered, it's impossible to imagine people who would slaughter them!
April 16th, 2021
Great capture!
April 16th, 2021
