I have no idea what this critter is called although I google for hours.

It reminds me of the Brown tailed moth that is toxic in this country but this one has more colour. Maybe it is related.

Your name seems to describe it well enough! I've never seen one like this either, but whenever I see spikes like that I always think it's toxic and leave it alone. Some of the "spikey" ones around here are "Tusk Moths" (several different varieties) and they are poisonous to the touch. So perhaps Susan is on the right path for identification as I don't know if we have the same types above the equator as below. Great shot!

Very interesting. Don't think that I seen one of these either. Agree with others, don't think I would touch it, as it looks like it might sting.
