This is a sweet little vase that belonged to my sister who died last year. She left a lot of her lovely items she had collected over the years to me. I think this vase is Danish - her husband is Danish. I tried a photo with a flower but it didn’t work so played around a bit.
Apt as in a couple of days we are going to bury their ashes with great pomp and circumstance. Family are arriving and there will be marinated herrings and aquavit which was Frank’s favourite.
Three good things;
1. I won $100 voucher for a restaurant with a win from one of my photographs. The steam train one.
2. Some welcome rain for our parched fields. My garden seems to be doing fine after some heavy duty watering way back in December
3. A petition has been set up to sign to try and change the system where overseas tourists are allowed to rent a car the moment they arrive after getting off a plane.
@judithg Just out of hospital, Judith and they have to wear a fibreglass frame on their backs for 12 weeks - fractured vertebrae. The funeral is tomorrow and stated only for friends and relatives as I suspect because of the publicity that hoards of people will want to come.
@judithg Thanks Judith for your thoughts- the most difficult at the moment will be burying their child while in such an injured condition! Bad enough if you are healthy!
Nice shot, Maggie. Cool processing. It looks like the flower is coming right out of the vase. Congrats on winning with your train photo! That's awesome news! I'm glad the petition was started. You and your family are still in my thoughts after that horrible accident.
So sad about that terrible accident...I have read bits about the thoughts for the driving campaign.....it sounds like a big problem that needs addressing. All power to your elbow.
Love the way the dress billows forward as if the wind is blowing her along! You will treasure that vase so much. Well done on your photo win maggiemae, such a thrill. Thinking of all your family in the next few days.
what an array of emotion reading your post, maggiemae. some wins, some losses. congrats on your winning photo. i hope the laws are changed to not allow tourists to drive, especially if where they come from the driving situation is different. i once drove an 'english' car back in manila where we drive on the right side and that was difficult enough if one wasn't very careful. i don't know what those tourists are thinking! my prayers for the soul of the little girl who perished and for the complete healing of her family who survived.
A beautiful keepsake from your sister. I have been thinking of you and your family and cannot imagine what they and you are going through!! I will be thinking of you all in the next few days!! Congrats on the win with your photograph - great news!! Take care!!
@pamknowler Yes, the funeral tomorrow and the burying of my sister's ashes and those of her husband the next day! I shall need to keep a clean handkerchief in my pocket!
Lovely blur and comp. Lovely keepsake. Congrats on your win on your photo.
The next few days are going to be difficult, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Lovely processing and capture of this beautiful memento, and congratulations on your award. Sounds like a bittersweet time for you right now though. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
A lovely reminder of your sister and I like the processing with the coordinating colors. Will keep you & the family in my thoughts during the funeral. That must be a sad time but it sounds like the ceremony will be quite touching and memorable. Congrats on winning a prize for your photo. I have had no luck with Guru Shots, but it's fun to join in.
Congratulations on your win. I love this vase and a wonderful memory of your sister. I'll keep you in my thoughts over the next few days. i t will be so hard for you all burying that poor little girl.
What a wonderful photo of one of the things left to you by your sister. You have certainly been through a lot and so has your family. My thoughts are with you as you have by now had the service for Ruby and your sister and her husbands ashes will be buried tomorrow (sorry I am behind). Ruby's parents and siblings must be just broken hearted and have to emotionally and physically heal. I hope both services went as well as they could. I also hope the petition works to reverse what tourists can do and stops what is happening as a result of their reckless driving. Take care.
@darsphotos Thank you Darlene for your kind thoughts! The first service is over and heartbreaking particularly for the sobs of the young children. Tomorrow's service will be a celebration of their long lives rather than a sorrow!
@maggiemae You are very welcome, Maggiemae. I just cannot imagine how sad and heartbreaking it was. I am glad that it will be a celebration of their lives. It will be a bit easier to get through though bitter sweet after the service for Ruby. Thinking of you and your family.
Such bad time for your family at the moment. I hope they soon recover physically. How nice that your sister left you such lovely things. Your photo here is unusual and so well done. Congrats on the train shot, well deserved.
Maggiemae, this is a beautiful vase, but made even more so because of the memories that it holds. I am so sorry you are experiencing so much loss these days. It is really tough to lose loved ones, and even try to console the ones left behind. But, life goes on, and I must congratulate you on your win!! That is so exacting, and I am really proud of you for putting yourself out there to win!! Kudos and congratulations to you!!
