Parasites! by mcsiegle

Parasites!

A couple of weeks ago I posted two shots as very, very overdue responses to Blair Howard's get pushed challenge to "capture the thing that scares you the most." The shots I posted were compromises in order to get that get pushed off my plate. They didn't show anything that really scares me, in the classic sense. Just things to definitely avoid stepping on. It bugged me, though, that I hadn't really answered the heart of the challenge. So since today's word for the current one night stand is "selfie" I decided to do what I had had in mind before. I wanted to do something more complex, but settled for this.

It's parasites, Blair, that scare the bejesus out of me. Two kinds of horror movies I won't watch -- torture, and parasitic stuff. I can't look at the "Aliens" movies with the aliens bursting out of people's chests. I was creeped out by the scene in a Star Trek movie (#2?) where a little thing slithers into someone's ear. Blech! Parasites, demonic possession... This National Geographic issue dealt with various kinds of parasites that take over their animal or insect host's brain functioning, causing them to do things they normally would never do. It was fascinating but the kind of thing that could keep me awake at night.

In addition to the one night stand, I'm tagging it with the get pushed number just for my reference, so I can remember what the impetus for this shot was.
@blahowd I said I'd tag you if I ever came up with what I had in mind for the thing that REALLY scares me. Here it is.
