Lisa Poland @homeschoolmom gave me the get pushed challenge of "urban decay or rust." I'll be darned if I can think of anyplace in town to find urban decay. Here in Manhattan, they've been tearing down and building up and things are looking pretty good... I could find RURAL decay if I wanted, or drive to a small town at a distance where I know there are boarded up storefronts, but my supervisor agreed with me -- we really don't have much urban decay. And I don't want to spend the time driving out of town.
So rust it is. I found this on campus and took a number of pictures of various parts of the thing. Here's another piece (not as rusty): http://365project.org/mcsiegle/365/2015-07-10
Great rust. You only have to go to Junction City to urban decay. I hope they have done some upgrades since we were last there in 2005. We often went to Manhattan to get away from there.
@homeschoolmom Thanks for the tip! Sometime I'll head to Junction. Actually, although there isn't any picturesque urban decay in Manhattan to speak of (or at least that I know where to find) we do have a good number of vacant storefronts in the mall (including Sears, which closed) -- and where K-Mart used to be, that is still vacant, plus another big space next to it where there was most recently a hardware store. If we let them sit for a couple of decades to marinate, maybe they'll be great urban decay photo ops down the line. I hope not, though.
