Is it summer where you live? The purple finches don't have that much raspberry here in the northeastern part of the US.

@skipt07 Nope - we're definitely in winter - (temperatures early this week were 17 in the morning - welcome to the sunny south!) I was surprised at his coloring, too. Most of ours are definitely red rather than raspberry.
