2015-10-04b oviposition (dolichomitus imperator)

Today I found a giant ichneumonidae wasp (dolichomitus imperator) while doing the oviposition.

Interesting for me: the ichneumonidae are important parasitoids of other invertebrates; common hosts are larvae and pupa of beetles, other wasps or butterflies.

A. Through chemical receptors the wasp suspects the host for her eggs in the wood.

B. With the bigger spike, the wasp drills a hole in the wood.

C. Now the wasp inserts the 2nd, intrinsic spike, and deposits the eggs.
Great captures
