A tradition I brought from the Faroe Islands. When fishermen landed their fish in the UK, they often brought home tins of these, and they became very popular in the Faroe Islands around Christmas. This was new for me, coming from Norway in the 80's, and I had never seen or heard about Quality Street.
These days I don't buy a tin, but just a small bag of them.
When I lived in the Faroe Islands, there were often a Christmas Cruise to England or Scotland, typically Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Newcastle, and people were emptying the shops of these tins, including Cadbury Roses. The staff at the supermarkeds had problems keeping up the stock in the store. It was a fun experience. I had a few of these trips when I worked at a home for mentally challenge, and we made a trip for the residents. It was a nice cruise onboard the Ferry Norröna, with great food, live music etc. We didn't do much shopping ourselves, since we were at work with the residents at the home. For us it was an aim tho have a nice experience for them.
Do you know Quality street? What's your favourite piece?
(From Wikipedia: Quality Street is a line of tinned and boxed toffees, chocolates and sweets, first manufactured by Mackintosh's in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, in 1936. It was named after J. M. Barrie's play Quality Street. Since 1988 they have been produced by Nestlé)
Today I have only been at home, caring for my wife. She was released from the hospital late yesterday evening. I have struggled to get her to take fluids, and was considering taking her back to the hospital. She's improving little by little though, and I hope she will be fine soon.
