I attended a course learning to use a new ticket machine for our buses. It was pretty easy, and will make our day easier as well. From July 1st we will start using the new machines that will be mounted in our new buses we will start using from the same day. I'm looking forward to it.
so funny that I was recently in one of our capital cities and leapt onto a bus with luggage at night, and went to hand money to the driver. he just looked at me and said, we don't handle money.
then as I felt dismayed for a moment, he said - just go take a seat and let me ride for free. I was so grateful. most people pay for monthly tickets and have a QR code on their phone that they wave over readers mounted at the doors to the bus
for my return journey I certainly ensured I found a ticket machine and purchased my ticket in advance tho!
I hadn't been on a local type of bus for maybe 30 years as we only really have school bus services here in my rural area. I had purchased my bus ticket online to travel up to the major city but hadn't considered you can't pay on a bus.
@koalagardens Here you can pay with cash, but there is a fee so the ticket will be more expensive. Normally they use an app, or a travel card that they can load with money. If you're a child or pensioner you will not pay a fee, so most of our cash customers are pensioners.
I would let you come onboard for free though.
Today there were one woman that came with cash because her app didn't work. I gave her the money back and she travelled for free. It wasn't her fault that the app didn't work, so why should she be punished for that?
@okvalle yes that is exactly what they are using here - phone apps and travel cards. I love thinking how that woman felt when you let her on free, I know I was so grateful that I didn't have to miss the bus at night and work it out
