I am putting the finishing touches on my graduation speech today, so I'm relying on a picture I took on our recent trip to Batavia. This lovely lady is carved into the arched entrance to the public library there. I think she might be Hera because her male counterpart on the other side of the arch looks like he might be Zeus. I'll have to see if I can find out who they are sometime and post her partner. At any rate, her stare sort of says it all for me today- I stumped on my ending and I find myself blankly gazing at anything trying to be inspired. My words will definitely not be carved in stone, but I certainly hope the graduating class of 2011 will remember some of the highlights of what I say! Now, if I could just think of a big finish...
A beautiful carving. I have a friend whose husband restores stained glass. He is quite concerned that the master craftsmen of former generations are not being replaced. No one wants to take the time to learn these great skills and we will all suffer as a result. Your lovely picture makes me both happy and sad as I take pleasure in its beauty and think about it as the last of an art form.
Good luck on your writing. I hope you have found your inspiration.
@jmj@bill_d@allie912 Thank you Jennifer for your kind words. They deeply touched me. I do pray that I have been a good message to them. Thanks Bill- I really do appreciate all the comments you leave! Allison, I understand what your friend is saying. You certainly don't see this kind of carving being done on new buildings. It's a very rush rush society we live in and art likes this takes time. And yes, I think I have an ending I'm happy with now. I'm sure the conclusion of this little mini chapter in my life will show up in tomorrow's post! Thanks to everyone for cheering me on.
