Well, I think this is as close as I am going to get from straight vertical blinds to a circular "little world" shot. I've tried dozens of different ideas- all producing some very interesting results- but as far as I can see I don't really have the right kind of photo to start with. Since my original is technically a close-up of the blinds, there is no horizon to wrap around in a circular motion to form a little world. I can crop the shot to a square however and mess around with the center orientation by running the shot through a number of crops and special effects. But because the blinds run in a straight pattern across the original shot, I can't get the kind of edge I want. This was the most random pattern I could manage so far and it was accomplished by overlaying a number, no, thousands! of different effects- so many I lost count! So I think I'm going to say this is my final attempt, but you will enjoy some of the other results for the remainder of this week. What do you think Andy, does it past muster as an interesting variation of a little world?
What happened there?! It's a really cool effect, definitely something new and interesting.
One approach to wrapping the original would be to duplicate it, reflect one copy and glue the two together into one image. You could then drag a white-to transparent gradient down from the top edge to create a horizon and then make it square and do the polar co-ordinates thing. Is that possible with online editing software, do you think?
@automaticslim The on-line software doesn't have the capability to wrap the photo around. I was trying a few different ways to make a quarter circle and then turn it so I'd get a wheel. But then I was only able to get a hard edge with no variation. The only way I was able to get some variation was to apply an effect the splintered the photo into small pieces- which caused the pin-wheel effect. Oh well- it was a fun experiment in all ways and I have some others to post as well. Thanks Andy. I shall hold on to all this info so that if someday I do end up with something loaded into my computer, I can give it a try because I do really like those things! I honestly don't remember all the things I did to this, I did so many so I can't tell you what happened here- just that it happened!
@dakotaburns Thank you Donald! @kerristephens Thank you Kerri! @filsie65 LOL Phil- at this point I have no idea what I did to get it either! (o: still laughing at the eye doctor comment! @salza Thank you Sally! @shirljess Thank you Shirley! @nadaa Thank you Nada! @chrismarfil Thank you Chris! @richk LOL Rich! How about Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat and Tears? @daisy Thank you Kathryn! Not quite the finale- two days to go before a new picture debuts, but certainly one that will be hard to top! @sarasdadandmom Thank you Terry!
How do you feel about downloading a full featured editing programme Ann? Gimp's still free, and far less user hostile than some people would have you think.
@automaticslim Andy, If you think I can download it to a CD I could do that- we will be getting a larger hard drive soon, but right now I've promised Jeff I won't put anything new on. I clear out my photos each month, but he's got a ton of music that we need to go through that's taking up a lot of space. Since he uses the computer for business, I try to keep my stuff out of the way the best I can! I did try Gimp on line once, but really didn't understand what I was doing at the time! It was easier for me to let the program do the processing for me on Ribbet and the others I use. But with step by step instruction, all I really need to do is try it a few times and then I've learned it enough to continue on my own. So that's a possibility. Thanks for the encouragement!
I don't know why but my mom had a strange Phoenix bed cover that had almost these colors and design. A circle filled with a flaming peacock. I wish I could show you how similar this is
