Purple is the final secondary color of the color wheel. My mother was not a fan of purple! This attitude was somewhat passed on to all three of her daughters and thus illustrated today by the fact that it took me most of the afternoon to find something purple to photograph! Even then, my first two attempts did not "match" the previous shots (not enough white!) so I ended up abandoning them after all my processing attempts failed to bring out the required balance. While in the process of digging out a purple marker for the final color wheel shot, (definitely not the way I wanted to finish off this challenge but I think I must own a mere 10 items that are purple and I've already photographed 7 of them in previous challenges!), I discovered this decorative punch I've used in photo scrapbooking and happily realized it was the perfect subject to finish off the color wheel. Tomorrow (hopefully) the icing on the cake- a creative look at the whole thing and a fitting finale to a fun challenge.
I'm the opposite -- love purple! Always have... I wish I could have loaned you something (e.g., a canvas cooler? iPhone cover? fountain pen?). But this worked out well as a great contrast to the white background.
@edie Thanks Edie! I really had fun with this- although I started out with a completely different look and style in mind! But sometimes your subjects tell you how they should be shot- and right from the git-go, the scissors said, "I need a white background so that I really stand out!" and that in turn set the tone for the entire week.
i love these lovely punchers! i used to have a dozen of them when i used to do crafting but i outgrew them so i gave them away. nice colours on this one.
@taffy Thanks Taffy! I have come to appreciate it more- in fact I've even purchased some purple tops- but they are summery and packed away right now! And oddly enough there are some purple shades that look really good on me- so I always chuckle in thinking my mother stunted my fashion growth by instilling a small aversion to the color in me. @summerfield Thank you Vikki! I had quite a few in the beginning- but this was always my favorite. So when others were starting up the craft, I'd slowly give the others away, so now, this is all that remains- and all I need. @bruni Thanks Bruni! I think I got it at the craft store- A. C. Moore. I don't know if you have them up by you- but if my memory serves me right that's where I got it.
Wonderful shot! Great focus. I am like you. I am not a fan of purple and have very few purple items in my house. I have a friend who is a great fan of purple. She wears a purple clothing and has lots of purple items in her home. Talk about friends who have opposite color preferences!
Thank you Brian, Hope, Alia, Sally, Pinchins, Brianna, Leana, Rick, Bil and Daisy! I have grown to appreciate purple through the years- and actually when Hope mentioned the garden, I realized that is one place that I really do enjoy the color purple. So although it is not a first choice there are exceptions. So cheer up- I am getting along with purple now more than ever!
Nice shot, Ann. Nice job on the processing too. You know that I'm not a fan of purple either. I own two things that are purple now. Well done on this :)
@dibzgreasley Thank you Debs! And thank you so much for the fav!! I have definitely come to appreciate certain shades of purple, and I actually own a few articles of clothing in purple now. But the tendency to avoid it is just one of those quirky things I picked up from my mom while growing up.
I was wondering what that object was?? Glad you mentioned it toward the end of the narrative :-) Turned out great for your color wheel. I have lots of purple stuff around here I could have loaned you ....LOL!
@cimes1 Thanks Carole! I will have to keep a look out for some purple doo-dads in the dollar bins since I'm running low on purple items to photograph now! hehe
Purple is my favourite colour. Great choice to use the whole punch for this image, I have quite a few of these. (I can't believe you don't like purple, who doesn't like purple!) :)
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! I have come to like it more- let's just say it's not the first thing that jumps to mind when I pick something out. But I do have a couple purple things now so- that's a step in the right direction!
