Last of the landscape shots and not a great day for anything "pretty" since it was overcast and damp. I was tempted to post something from one of the other days that didn't make the final cut, but in the end I opted to walk back into the woods behind our house and shoot the first thing I saw. Last Spring the man who owns this property collected all the fallen trees and large branches into several piles. It was as if he was cleaning the forest floor. We were explaining this to someone who said, "Oh the Germans do that!". I do not know the background of our neighbor, so I cannot deny or confirm this! But I do know that I usually try to aim the camera anywhere but at this pile! However, today it seemed to be a good subject after all and so here it is in all its glory. Actually I think he may have removed some of it. It seems a lot smaller than when it first appeared.
I'm joining @summerfield and @bill_fe in their month of black and white shots. Next up a week of N's. This should be fun as I'll also being attempting to do the One Night Stand challenge as well.
He may be using it for firewood for a fireplace or outside bonfire? We used to do this also, and I'm also German but I didn't do it for any traditional thing. Did it for the above mentioned!! LOL Plus it does make the woods look nicer. This pile of wood would make an awesome bonfire!!!! Roast marshmellows and hot dogs!! Love photos of the woods so love this!! FAV!
This is beautiful -- wonderful lighting and textures. And strange to think of a bonfire in the forest....seems a bit dangerous, though it may be my paranoia about fires at the moment showing through! I also wish you could have packed up Jeff and colleagues and sent them along!! I'm hoping our new contractor keeps up the wonderful work, as it feels SO much more hopeful since he started!
Nice shot. It looks like a dreary day. Is that the white stuff (aka "s" word) on the ground I see??? I wish I had wings to fly south with the Canadian Geese!
My thanks to everyone and especially to those who gave it a fav! For those who took note, there was some snow on the ground but I don't really remember as much as this picture gives the impression that was there. I think it's more the effect I applied and playing with the exposure.
And, no, the neighbor does not burn this wood in the woods. He carts it off somewhere. I think he is using it in his smokehouse.

@bruni Thank you Bruni! I have to say after he tidies it up, it looks really pretty! I just wish the piles weren't in all the pretty spots! haha!
Thank you April, Mark, Nicole, Alta and Bill!
