What Is It (High Key)

Back filling! I was achy and tired yesterday as the weather has been cold and rainy for three days. I took some shots of birds and squirrels at the feeder but ended up deleting all of them. Today I tried tackling one of the challenges currently running in our photo club. The idea is to take a shot of something you would normally shoot in macro from a wide-angle point of view. I have no clue how to do this with my Powershot and hopefully I'll figure out how to do it with the Rebel before the entry time is up. In the meantime, I have been collecting these weird plastic pieces because I thought they might be interesting to photograph. I thought I'd post a shot of them lined up to look like hieroglyphics and ask you what you thought it might say. But the fish-eye effect in the camera made them look very interesting so I decided to take a shot and play with it for a week. This should be interesting.

It's starting out here in the main album but for the remainder of the week, it will be in my second album.
It reminds me of Chinese writing. A most interesting looking collection.

I'd say Chinese writing.

no, not quite high key. i think high key must have a great abundance of white. :-) but the 'letters' actually say: "do i look fishy, my tail got caught in the hook and my hair is a mess." basically, that's what the characters mean. (okay, so i made that up, but it was fun!)

very abstract and appropriate tags.

@summerfield you took the words right out of my mouth!

Ann your power shot probably has a flower icon for close up (macro) and wide angle would be the zoom all the way in. I've got a powershot a710 (or something like that ).

very nice shot!

@summerfield Yes, you are right; it does not look high key. fyi It started out as a high key in processing- but you know my fingers just had to mess around with a few more applications and thus it no longer looks high key. The title was merely a way of me remembering which version this was. I also love the interpretation!!

@bill_fe Thanks for the tip Bill. I had a feeling it was something like that but to be honest, this seems to me a somewhat strange challenge in that I really don't know what the fellow who thinks these things up had in mind when he came up with it. I would have liked to see an example. When I do take a close up shot with the zoom all the way in, it doesn't really look any different than a close-up shot, so I'm not quite sure where to go with it. The good thing is, I don't have to enter a shot for it if I don't feel like it. So we'll see. I've got plenty of time to play around with it. Entries aren't due until mid-Feb. As for the "high key" title- see above explanation to Vikki. I guess I should have taken that out! There are too many smart people on 365!

Thank you Sally, Margaret, Colleen, Kerri, Linda, Yao, Vikki and Bill!

I thought of you when I made up the tag Bill!

@olivetreeann I meant Vikki's translation, those are the exact words she took right out of my mouth. :-) @summerfield It's uncanny, really. :-p

@bill_fe - what can i say, i have a talent for language, visual or otherwise. :-P

@bill_fe @summerfield You two crack me up! I probably will be laughing so much when we get together, I'll have no pictures to show for the meet-up!

Great shot, Ann. It's really abstract. It could say anything. Maybe "Get me out of this coffin!". As for shooting wide angle, check your user manual. I just did a quick scan of mine and it does have to do with the zoom. Keeping it zoomed out gives you more of a wide angle (according to my manual and the little pictures on my camera). The manual has a chart with maximums for wide angle and other settings.

Interesting, well done!

@prttblues Thanks for that tip Bev- I just saw this today (the 29th) and will definitely check that out in my manual tomorrow.
@vesna0210 Thank you Vesna!
