It was sunny today and unseasonably warm! I had hoped to get outside and shoot in the early morning but was side-tracked by a few indoor projects so it was noon by the time I stepped outside. I knew the lighting was going to be quite severe, but I was curious to see how that would effect both the camera's ability to read patterns and the histogram. I wasn't surprised that it was difficult not to have over-exposed areas and they showed up on the histogram as blinking areas. I was expecting to see the graph reading tilt to the left side (the lighter end of the spectrum), but it wasn't as heavily tilted there as I expected. In the end, I balanced everything out to my liking in post processing, but reading the histogram ahead of time prepared me for what I would have to do.
An interesting image! I have found midday sun is some of the best for sharp contrast especially for B&w photos! I am learning a lot just by reading your comments on the photos you are taking! You seem to be constantly teaching me! This challenge is teaching me about the histogram too! Up to now I have really never paid any attention to it but it can be a very useful tool! Thanks Ann!
Thank you so much Sylvia, Phoebe, Chris, Katy, Alta, Wendy and Rick. I'm sort of laughing at myself today- thought I'd figured that ol' histogram out but it surprised me again! I'll be posting about that later.
