Number 64

Sandy Hook was once a military base and many of the buildings are still standing. This used to be a home (perhaps housing one of the higher ranking officers). It is definitely in need of some TLC, but still has such character. I wonder what stories it could tell!
I'm sure it was for some high ranking guy!! It just looks like it! And I do wish it could tell the stories within those walls. I bet there are plenty! Interesting old home and capture of it.

It IS a lovely shot. I've enjoyed seeing images of Sandy Hook that are beyond that horrific school shooting.....

Great processing and it so needs some TLC

Still looks good. Great processing and tones. During colonial times, Malta was full of army barracks scattered all over the island. Some have been made to good use but some remain derelict.

This is so sad, why were the houses just left abandoned?

Thank you so much everyone!

@aikimomm That was in CT Phoebe, this is NJ. But yes, a horrific event no matter where it took place.
@onewing The base was shut down at some point but I'm not sure of the year. With the advent of technology and other means of defense, there was no need for the expense of a base here so they closed it. But some of the buildings have been reclaimed and are occupied again plus one has also been made into a museum.

Lovely old house with lots of stories to tell no doubt. Just a coat of paint and it would be as good as new. Also thank you for following me.

Beautiful house. I did a double take as it is rather unusual to see a brick house in America.

@claudiet Thank you Claude! Yes, a little TLC (Tender Loving Care) and it'd be as good as new.
@salza Thanks Sally! It's not really unusual to see brick houses here- it depends on the area and when the house was built. I think they were most popular in the late 1950's and really hit their peak in the '60's. This house though was probably built in the late 1930's, early '40's. It is on an old military base on the coast of New Jersey. You can tell the date by the type of windows, bricks and overall architectural design.

@olivetreeann Thanks for the clarification in states; I thought it was Connecticut that you were visiting. But of course NJ would be closer to you!
