Token by olivetreeann

Token

I had a blank page today and sometimes they are harder for me than the ones with words! What Phantom Tollbooth shot could I do today? I popped around the book a bit and landed on a paragraph in which Milo wishes to buy some words at the Word Market in Dictionopolis but all he has on hand is the token which will allow him to pass through the tollbooth when he's finished his adventure in the Lands Beyond. Hmmm...did I have a token anywhere? Yes! A little momento from my home state- New Jersey. I think I've had this for a while- but I'd be embarrassed to say how long!
love the way you have the background - gives it just enough contrast

Beautiful shot of such a simple object, Ann! I'd save that token forever!

@dmariewms Thank you Marie! Believe it or not, that is my kitchen sink!
@karenann Thanks Karenann! I probably will. It went back into the jar it was in before I took the picture!
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!

Our tollbridge cost 75 cents and floods in the spring! Good work on the blank page!

@mrssmith Thanks Carla! I knew that's why I saved it for all these years!
@httpgeffed I'll see your 75 cents and raise it a quarter- that's what it takes to cross over the Delaware River from NJ to PA. (o: Thanks Colleen!

Ü nice shot Ann goes well with your very nice commentary!

Ann, I love the metal on metal. It cost me 2.00 every time I crossed the toll bridge between work and home. Don't miss the expense. Love the token.

Oh come on, we can take it LOL.

@weebug Thanks Marti!
@daveanajao Thanks Dave!
@changingtides Thanks Allie! Wow- that's a pricey commute, and I can see why you don't miss it. I think the bridges in NYC are up to like 12 dollars or something ridiculous like that. It just makes you wonder where all the money is going! (Oh and the background metal is my kitchen sink!)
@digitalrn Well, let's see Rick- the last time I remember using a token on the Garden State Parkway was BEFORE I was married and I've been married 33 years. It was also BEFORE I went to college and I started college in 1974- four years before I was married AND I think it might have even been before I went to high school, soooo that would make this token at least 41 years old. Uggh- that makes me feel really old!!

Great shot! Metal isn't always easy to capture but this looks really good :)

@alia_801 Maybe it's the natural lighting? I turned off all the lights and let whatever light was out there come in from my window over the sink. I didn't really know metal was hard to capture- I just liked the way the token looked against the stainless steel of the sink!

You have framed this perfectly and chose a wonderful background.

@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! I had it sitting on my desk and was going to shoot it with the wood as the background, but felt like I'd done that a million times. So I started thinking about where else I might shoot it and ta da- the kitchen sink came to mind!
