First Daffodil by olivetreeann

First Daffodil

My first daffodils have bloomed! I posted this in honor of Mother's Day which is being celebrated in the UK today. The moms of the USA must wait until May 13th for their special day. So until then, I'm sending Mother's Day greetings to all my 365 friends who are celebrating a loved one, or being celebrated in the UK!
Pretty . . . Happy UK Mother's Day

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!

very pretty. BTW, out of curiosity, what time of year does Mother's Day occur in the UK?, because last year, it was in April, I think?
March 17th, 2012
@sfeldphotos I don't know if it changes every year, but my wall calendar this year says it's tomorrow- March 18th. @filsie65 @wardie @paulineb @simster @netkonnexion @lousiefrance @elizabeth @sarah19 @jmj
Maybe one of you could answer Sam's ( @sfeldphotos ) question for me (see previous post to this comment).

I think it depends on when Easter falls! Last year it was very late!
My mum's birthday is March 16th and it often comes along close to her birthday! She made a big issue of us not celebrating Mother's Day as well as her birthday! And we still 'ignore it' though we love her lots and she knows it!
March 17th, 2012
@sfeldphotos Sam- here's the answer for you from my friend Sarah who lives in Scotland. See above.

@olivetreeann @sfeldphotos Hello! Yes Sarah Bremner is right - it's always during lent and I think it's usually the 4th Sunday in Lent, no idea why! For us it's tomorrow, March 18th. :)
March 17th, 2012
@sarah19 @filsie65 Thanks ladies! I knew the experts would come through!!
March 17th, 2012
Happy Mother's Day to all in the UK. It's pretty Ann
March 17th, 2012
@sfeldphotos Mothering Sunday is always the fourth Sunday in Lent ... so yes, it depends on the date of Easter!
March 17th, 2012
@filsie65 Traditionally it was the Sunday when girls "in service" were allowed to go home to their 'Mother Church' before the last two very busy weeks of Lent and Easter preparations.

How lovely. I noticed that my Spring bulbs are alread starting to grow, this weather we have had is doing strange things to my garden. I might be photographing Spring bulbs in Winter.

this is so gorgeous Ann!

@digitalrn Thanks Rick!
@elizabeth Thanks for the info Elizabeth! I so love this aspect of 365, that we can learn about other countries and their holidays right from the people who live there. I was posting this shot and saw the date on the calendar that hangs by my computer and thought "I'm going to wish everyone in the UK a Happy Mother's Day". Little did I know it would turn into such a fun discussion! Thanks for sharing that with us!
@filsie65 Thanks Phil- it is one of the things that I enjoy about 365. My world is expanding!
@inertie Thank you Inertia. I think this is the earliest I remember them blooming. We've had such a mild winter, it didn't take much to wake them up!
@sarasdadandmom Thanks Terry!
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! Well, if your winter is as mild as ours was, then you might be doing that!!
@woot Thanks Davide! They are miniature daffodils- tiny, about the same size as a Grape Hyacinth if you've ever seen one of them.
March 18th, 2012
@olivetreeann - I think our summer was as mild as your winter, it didn't get hot!
March 18th, 2012
@nicolecampbell Oh- that's interesting. I think we're in for a bad summer since the winter was so mild. If we don't get enough rain during the spring, I'm certain we'll have a drought.

Emerging color! Great picture of the daffodil just starting to open with the other just out of frame in the foreground.
March 18th, 2012
@beachradish Thanks Beachradish! It's a lovely cluster and could be shot altogether, but I wanted to look inside the center. Glad you like it!

Bev
It looks like it's a little sleepy still. Nice shot! Love the yellow.
March 18th, 2012
@prttblues Thanks Bev! Yes- this was taken on Friday. After yesterday's sunshine and warmth it was open even further, but I'd already posted the shot, so I just left it.
March 18th, 2012
Hey my favorite Spring flowers..can't wait for ous. did you use it for the theme-green?
March 18th, 2012
@bruni Thanks Bruni! No, not this one- I think this shot is more about the yellow than the green. But I did post a shot on March 17 for the green theme. It's a succulant that we call Hen and Chicks (some call them Cat and Kittens) which has some beautiful coloring. Daffodils are my favorite flower too!
March 19th, 2012
this got lost in the deluge of mass postings in my dashboard. yay! for the beautiful blooms. i went around yesterday and also during my walk this evening, i noticed the crocuses have bloomed or verging on blooming and there were a few daffodils, too. i love the colours on this. pretty!
March 19th, 2012
@summerfield Thanks Vikki! I only have one or two croci (?) and I'm not sure if they survived the squirrels this year. We'll see.
