@sharritta Thank you Sharon! This is a color shot of a very gray day with the cross processing effect applied which brought out the color a little and added that gold tone to the sky. I then added a vingette around the edges in a light brown. And that's exactly the feel I was going for! @kimmistephens Thanks Kimmi! @cortens Thanks Julie! @kerristephens Thanks Kerri! @paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula! @prttblues Thanks Bev! @karenann Thanks Karenann! No, actually this is the farm where Jane and her puppies lived. @cimes1 Thank you Carole! @bruni Thank you Bruni!
The day was very cloudy for most of the time. While I was shooting the pictures I did some in color and black and white. The b/w shots all came out just fine. But the color shots were lackluster. At first I thought about converting this to b/w, but on a whim tried the cross processing effect first and loved how it brought up a bit of the color but gave the barn itself that "old" feeling. I added a slight vingette around the edge to really give it the classic antique feel and then added the frame. It really worked well for this shot.
@bruni You certainly may! Cross processing is a throw back to the days of dark rooms where photographers would deliberately use the wrong chemicals to develop their photos. The result would be an interesting color effect on the film or distorted natural colors. Now that we process our pictures digitally, an effect has been created that mimmicks the results of cross processing for color or b/w shots. The vingette is that shadowy edge around the outside of the picture. You can adjust how wide and dark it is. On this shot I made it very narrow and lighter so that it didn't stand out as much. But in most shots it's much more visible. Good question Bruni! @mrssmith Thank you Carla! @digitalrn Thank you Rick. You have probably seen it if you've driven on Rt. 340 near Bird in Hand and Intercourse. @tanja_1211 Thank you Tanja!
@dmariewms Thank you Marie! This was a good exercise for me. I didn't want to go photo crazy in order not to overstep my welcome, so instead of walking around and shooting constantly I had to carefully choose 2 or 3 positions where I'd shoot from- hence the very powerful shot from the base of the drive. @sangwann Thank you Dione. Yes, many of these farms are quite old but each and every one is in tip-top shape. They are very special to their owners and so are well-kept. @peterdegraaff Thank you Peter. As it was an overcast day, the original was nice, but lackluster. I also wanted to emphasize the age of the farm, so the processing helped to do that. @nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole. Yes, I imagine it's rather large. This barn housed mules and milk cows. The barn from 2 days ago was across from this one on the same farm. I'm not sure what was in that one, but it must have had feed and possibly chickens. It was a beautiful farm and very clean!
