Consider the...Coneflowers

I am fascinated by Coneflowers!
I never heard of these until today when another 365er posted a yellow one. I can see why you are fascinated. She's a beauty and I love the focus and the muted background reminds me of a watercolor abstract. FAV......so lovely.

Awww... a petal fell off. Love this kind of flower. It's color is pretty and it's look is unique. Nice job!

@cimes1 Thanks Carole! I've never seen a yellow one- it might be a different flower altogether. But I'm no expert! Thanks so much for the fav! You're the best!!
@karenann Thanks Karenann- the petals just made this such an interesting blossom to shoot. It was begging for a picture!
@prttblues Thanks Bev! I think the lack of rain has played a large part in this flower's short lifespan. Still it's quite pretty. The curled petals remind me of a pinwheel.

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri!

Yes this is the one..I also have one on the left of the monkshood which doesn't get much sun so it's only half as tall as the other. Hans was mentioning to get something like a milar blanket to install near the wall of the house so it rfeflect the sunlight to the shady area..now that I know you can do that I'll bug him until he looks into it. I also have one in an orange color..will have to take a picture of it.

@bruni That's interesting- Carole Imes said someone posted a shot of a yellow one and you've got an orange one! I'm only familiar with this color. I'll be looking forward to seeing that!

Me too!

Gosh never seen one before! It's lovely though. Is it a relative of the dahlia?

@groovygirlrn Thanks Sheri!
@httpgeffed Thanks Colleen!
@filsie65 Thanks Phil! I don't know. It's quite possible.

There's a lot of mathematics going on in that flower head. Fascinating indeed.

Gorgeous capture, flower and colours.
July 22nd, 2012
@digitalrn Thanks Rick! They really are a fascinating flower.
@eudora Thanks Diane! I didn't know they came in other colors. The pink version is the only one I'm familiar with. But some have said they'll be posting shots of yellow and orange ones.
@salza Thank you Sally! You didn't miss it- I had a few days last week where I didn't post in my second album and I'm just filling in the dates now.
@sangwann Thanks Dione!

I never planned on planting these in my yard. The past year with all the lovely insects has changed my mind. The only more populated flowers are the thistles, and I don't think I'll plant those.
July 22nd, 2012
So am I. I adore these flowers and planted quite a few in my front garden last summer. I have my fingers crossed that they return this year.
July 22nd, 2012
I like cone flowers, too. This is cool, the petals make it look like a pinwheel
July 22nd, 2012
Yep! Me too! I think they are another example of Fibonacci sequence. Although a dunce at math I remember seeing the pattern on a tv show i like called Numbers!
July 22nd, 2012
@dmariewms Thanks Marie! Mine were started from a transplant that my friend Debbie gave me. I had one small cluster to start with and now I have 3! According to her, they will probably take over the entire flower bed. That's fine with me! I've had a thistle grow there too- but the deer got to it this year, and it hasn't sent up a new bud.
@nicolecampbell Thanks Nicole! They are supposed to spread really fast so you should have more this year.
@crickle1969 Thanks Chrystal!
@potsbypam Thanks Pam! Although we don't often see it, there is a lot of math in some of the most beautiful things!

that's the kind of flowers the city planted around the parking lot next to our building and the same flowers that i've been wanting to covet, but partner said it might be illegal to shear off the city's flowers. so tempted. i love how the petals curled around and it looks like some propeller that's ready to shoot up!
July 23rd, 2012
@summerfield When the flowers have finished blooming just take off some of the heads and save the seeds. You can plant them next spring and before you know it, you'll have your own crop of them!
July 23rd, 2012
@olivetreeann - i will, if the bastard city contractors don't pull them away before that happens. i should go back to work hehehe! thanks, ann.
July 24th, 2012
@summerfield Well, you could always pick a few now (unseen of course- the seeds are already there- those orange spiky parts are the seeds).
