I realized I needed a second shot for my second album today and decided to capture one last holiday shot since today is Epiphany. Come this weekend it will be time to take the Christmas decorations down and pack them away for another year. So here is one last look at the magi before they, and the rest of the Nativity set go into storage. And here's a little history on this holiday as well:
Epiphany is commonly known as Twelfth Night, Twelfth Day, Three Kings’ Day, or the Feast of Epiphany. Epiphany means “manifestation” or “showing forth”. Eastern Christians have also given the day the name "Theophany" meaning “manifestation of God”. Epiphany refers not only to the day itself but to the church season that follows it – a season that has a varied length because it ends when Lent begins, and this depends on the date of Easter.
Epiphany commemorates the first two occasions on which Jesus’ divinity, according to Christian belief, was made known: when the three kings (also known as wise men or Magi) visited infant Jesus in Bethlehem, and when John the Baptist baptized him in the River Jordan. The Roman Catholic and Protestant churches emphasize the visit of the Magi when they celebrate the Epiphany. The Eastern Orthodox churches focus on Jesus’ baptism.
Epiphany is one of the oldest Christian feasts. It was celebrated since the end of the second century, before the Christmas holiday was established. It is always celebrated on January 6, which is 12 days after Christmas on the Gregorian calendar. In some European countries, such as the Czech Republic and Slovakia, children dress as the three kings and visit houses. In their roles as the kings, or wise men, they sing about the Jesus’ birth and pay homage to the “king of kings”. They are rewarded with praise and cookies.
I missed my Epiphany / 3 Kings Day shot this year and was so happy you were able to post one ... and it's a lovely one at that with such beautiful lighting and glows on the figurines. I hope your arthritis has improved since the other day. Take care!
Thank you everyone- so sorry I've been awol a few days. Busy schedule and a winter slump did me in. So I'll be slowly catching up with you.
@cimes1 There is a definite improvement in the finger and it doesn't go numb as much. The swelling is going to take a long time to even out though. It's been tough not seeing the ring there.
