February Calendar by olivetreeann

February Calendar

Not the best shot of my calendar but it's the best I can do in the shape that I'm in!

I have mixed feelings about the book we read this time. I felt there was some great information included in it, but it was geared for a camera with more "bells and whistles" than mine and included instructions for processing programs I do not have. Our last book by Freeman focused more on the artistic aspects of photography so it was geared toward any camera type. However, I did take some things away from this book- particularly in the processing aspect of photography that I was able to adapt to my situation and circumstances. Compared to last year's "Flash of Red February" I felt a little less focused each week because there were so many chapters to choose from. But in the end I realized this also gave me the freedom to take advantage of whatever photographic opportunities presented themselves to me. In the end, I like that the flash of color sits well inside the camera and fools you into thinking it's at the center initially.

So thanks once again to Katie for putting this all together!
Cool shots

Congratulations on completing your month. You did a great job, Ann! And your calender looks really nice - especially with the bit of red in the middle. Job well done. You should be very proud of yourself. I'm proud of you. I don't think I'd have the mental strength to commit to doing something like this every day for a month.

A good month for you -- you had some really wonderful images and the monthly calendar view came out great with the red flash in the middle.

Congratulations. What a great achievement. I just have to remember don't click one of them as I did a few days ago.

Your black-and-white calendar looks so lovely. It really is just beautiful. My favorite shots are perhaps the ones I relate to the most: the lace, the baskets, and the leaf close-up on the 24th. The white doorknob is also such an interesting picture to me! Of course I love the red/pink flamingos! :) You and Katie are both such wonderful teachers--thanks so much to both of you for your encouragement and support. This site is just chock-full of such talented people, and I'm learning so much from all of you. I feel like it was such a rewarding experience to participate and grow. :o Can you recommend a favorite part of the first book? I'm thinking of reading it soon...I'm glad to hear it focuses on ideas for the subjective and creative side of photography, as I am really interested in exploring abstracts in the future. It really surprised me that I enjoyed learning about them so much in the black-and-white book club!

@gratefulness Thank you Sandi! I would recommend Photography and the Art of Seeing by Freeman Patterson over the book we covered for this challenge. The principles in that book can be applied to both color and black and white, plus he includes "assignments" with each chapter that are designed to help you "see" pictures and subjects more clearly. There is a great deal of technical things in the current book that did not help me at all and quite frankly were boring or hard to understand. So if you're going to spend money on a book, I'd get the first one. If you go to Katie's BlogSpot, I think you can order it there and she gets credit for it. Double check with her on that. Otherwise you can find it on Amazon.
