Walking With Grandpa by olivetreeann

Walking With Grandpa

Take my hand Grandpa
And show me the world
Teach me about swans and bugs
And salt swamps

Give me dreams of dolphins
And whales and snowy white birds
Hold my hand and show me
How precious I truly am

Walk slowly so that I will see
The wonder of the big sky
And the grace of reeds
Dancing in the wind

Stop when I stop to pick up a pebble
Give me a kiss when I make you smile
Take my hand in yours
And I will feel the strength of your love

Walk slowly for childhood
Flies too quickly by
But memories like this
Last an eternity

I saw this adorable little fashionista taking a walk with her grandfather while Jeff and I were bird watching at the Nature Conservancy in Cape May. She was absolutely loving her time with him and they walked quite slowly discussing all the things they were seeing. Being a grandparent myself now, I recognize what treasures are taking place here and how precious they are. When you become a parent you love your children no matter what and would give your life for theirs. Becoming a grandparent raises the level of that love to new heights! What was even more beautiful to me about this grandparent/grandchild discovery time was the fact that that thing on her leg is apparently connected to a catheter. This little girl has recently had some major surgery so I'm sure Grandpa is even more thankful to be spending time with her.

Great candid, Ann and I love that poem. I've not heard it before. I hope that the little girl doesn't have to have any more operations. Endearing shot.

Grandpa's can do this - they have the time, the patience and the love! Shown here!

That´s so great, the shot and the poem and how well they go together. I wish this little girl is on her way to recovery now and that there will be many more precious moments like this to come

@mrssmith203 Thank you Carla! This was a sneaky shot. We were sitting on a bench as they passed by and I put my camera down as if I was not using it. I wanted to be sure though that I did not get their faces. It worked out really well as I was able to let them pass and go a little further on by using my zoom to compose the shot when they neared the bridge over the dam between the two salt marshes. So that is how the lower perspective was achieved.

@vesna0210 Thank you for those kind words Vesna!

very poignant shot, ann. it breaks my heart every time i see a sick child. she should be running and jumping and catching butterflies and climbing trees. i hope she will recover one day and enjoy childhood.

@summerfield Thank you Vikki! Actually I think she's well on her way there because other than the bag, you'd never know there was anything wrong. She was talkative and just lovin' the time with Grandpa. Her face was one big smile!
