A posting of pictures from Mystic Seaport by one of my 365 friends recently brought to mind a family vacation we had taken there when I was child. So today I pulled out my old scrapbook and found the pictures and mementos I collected on that trip. I think I showed a little promise as a photographer, although I did need some work on making sure everyone's entire body was in the picture!
Almost as fun to look at were the comments I wrote under each picture:
Top row, left to right-
Mommy, Daddy, Diana (left) and Kim (right) stand in front of the Charles W. Morgan sign. First day out.
The crow's nest. An old look-out tower for some lucky sea-sick sailor.
Daddy uses the camera an awful lot, but he missed the seagull that sat on the tippy top of the church steeple.
Bottom row, left to right-
The ride to Mystic took 6 hours. Diana and Kim stand patiently while Daddy packs the car.
Mommy loves Mystic! Especially the Charles W. Morgan, an old whaling schooner.
(No picture for this comment, but it was funny so I'm including it here) We rent a house in town. Kim sleeps on a cot. Diana and I get an old bed with a brass head board.
The Charles W. Morgan was a real pretty boat. This is one trip that will be remembered.
Was I not cute??!! Actually I do remember this trip and I once remarked to my father about how he and mom took us on so many great family holidays. "We only went on two," he said, "Mystic and Sturbridge one year and then on the Basin Harbor Club on Lake Champlain a few years later." I guess my parents made anything we did seem like a vacation!
we went there also (in the early 1970's) en route to Boston for a family visit to my grandmother. My family didn't do pictures though. You were very organized.
My thanks to all! It was certainly a fun trip down memory lane and also fun to read some of your own thoughts about this wonderful place. Isn't technology great? I will now be able to send a copy of this to my sisters and share it with them too!
