Our camera club visited a Maple Syrup Farm today. We had a great time. After a very informative hike in the woods and lecture in the sugar shack, we got to taste the syrup. Yum!
I learned today that Northeaster Pennsylvania is considered the lowest point south on what is called the "Maple Belt" and that Maple Syrup cannot be produced west of the Mississippi River. "Why?" you may ask? It's because of the environment and climate. Maples need alternating bouts of freezing weather and thaws to get the sap flowing in the tree so that syrup can be made.
Interesting photo and commentary. Thanks for the info. Very informative. . A couple we met on our recent cruise have maple trees in Quebec Province, and they explained the process of making the syrup. We were fascinate. This sounds like a great place to visit.
My dad grew up making maple syrup in Michigan and I've heard many stories of the process. It's very fascinating! I love the soft focus of this picture and the story it tells.
@grammyn Thanks Katy! Michigan was mentioned in our "lecture" as having a few pockets where syrup can be produced. Sounds like you must have had a lot of pancakes growing up! hehe
@thistle Thanks Joyce!
