Challenge 2 - Melbourne by onewing

Challenge 2 - Melbourne

I have been challenged by my 365 friend, Lee @gamelee to post landscapes for the three days and to challenge three other 365ers to do the same.

I thought I would like to do scenes from some of our capital cities.

This is day 2 of the challenge and today's photo was taken in Melbourne from the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower, looking down on the city.

Of course, this was taken through glass, because they don't want anybody falling from that height I suppose and that was a bit of a challenge to get a shot without any glare from the glass.
A super shot Babs --and what a view and the land so flat for miles !

Very detailed and clear capture Babs. Especially considering you were doing it through glass.

Excellent - I want to get a clear day from Sydney Eye - have had smoky from fires, fog and rain lol

A great shot and no hint that it was taken through glass.

This doesn't look taken through glass. A wonderful view, look at all those stadiums.

Sam
it's HOME!

It is a fantastic view from up there. I really want to get up there for some night shots. Great job in avoiding the glare too.

Superb cityscape Babs, wonderful focus, lighting and detail:)

What a view !!!!!

Wonderful view and angled shot Babs.

@beryl Thanks Beryl, it is a fantastic view all across Melbourne from up at the Eureka Tower Skydeck.
February 9th, 2015
@thistle Thanks Joyce, the glass is pretty thick too and some of the glass has a blue tinge to it, so I had to pick the right angle.

@annied Haven't been to the Sydney Eye yet, would love to. Maybe next time we are in Sydney I will check it out. Not sure David is brave enough though. He wasn't too keen on the Eureka tower, ha ha. Deb and I thought it was fantastic.

@quietpurplehaze @888rachel Thanks. That is what I was hoping to achieve. I did get glare on some shots though.
February 9th, 2015
@gigiflower I thought Sydney was home and Melbourne was your adopted home. We started off in Victoria and then moved to NSW.
February 9th, 2015
@karlow75 Thanks Kane. Would it be difficult to get shots at night from up there through glass? Have only been up there in the daytime.

@onewing 100% right!!!! In my heart, Sydney will ALWAYS be my home. However I have been in Melbourne now for nearly 15 years and I do really, really like it. Sydney has my heart :)

@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I know my challenge was landscape, but as I live by the ocean most of my shots involve water and the landscape around home is a bit ordinary, so I have opted for cityscapes as my landscape shots for three days. I wanted to involve some of our capital cities. A bit of poetic licence in my interpretation of landscape. ha ha

@hermann @tonygig It is a fantastic view from up there and it takes 38 seconds to travel 88 floors in the lift. Quite an experience.

Great capture. What a beautiful view. :)

Great view on Melbourne. Is it a public entrance ? Two of my children live in Melbourne so I may soon visit them again. I will try to get the same view.
February 9th, 2015
@gosia Yes it is open to the public it is in the Eureka Tower. this is the 88th floor. http://eurekaskydeck.com.au/visitor-information/skydeck-experience.html

What a fabulous view. Great shot. About taking photos through glass, I thought you might find this interesting. http://www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/2473/how-to-shoot-photos-through-a-window/

Such a wonderful view
February 9th, 2015
Well that's the trouble with landscapes...if you like busy & people they aren't as interesting.....lots to look at here though....lovely to see Melbourne from above!
February 9th, 2015
@onewing 99% of the population in Oz live and play by the sea, when images are this good who can object, I've had a go at the theme of Cityscapes today:)
February 9th, 2015
What a spectacular view
February 9th, 2015
@gigiflower I know what you mean Sam. I have lived in England since 1964 but when I talk about going back to Ireland I say that I'm going home!
February 9th, 2015
Love this view of the city spread out before us.

Wonderful view!
February 10th, 2015
I stayed just a few metres down the road when I was there in January, great view from up there Babs.
February 10th, 2015
Lovely vantage point...bungee jumping optional.
February 10th, 2015
You did so well - it is so clear! Wonderful landscape!
February 10th, 2015
Fantastic POV Babs what a lovely sight!! Great for your landscape challenge
February 10th, 2015
@kathiecb ha ha, I am sure somebody will come up with the bungee jumping idea before long. Having said that though the lift only takes 38 seconds to travel 88 floors, so I think that may be quicker than travelling by bungee.

@seattlite @salza @bkbinthecity @ceilidh @fullcircle @ziggy77 @lavenderbells @shailestha @lan @tabarlett @eyesmile Thanks so much, it is a wonderful view across Melbourne from up there.
February 10th, 2015
@gamelee Thanks Lee and thanks for the link too. Very interesting. I do have a polarizing filter, but of course, didn't have it with me that day.
February 10th, 2015
@happypat Thanks Pat. I love looking at other people's landscape shots, but where I live the landscape is a little bit boring, which is why I tend to go for either cityscapes, seascapes, or industrial landscapes etc.
February 10th, 2015
@bella_ss Thanks Sheralee. Were you staying at the Travelodge? and did you go up the Eureka Tower while you were there too?
February 10th, 2015
Thank heavens for glass! Super view.
February 10th, 2015
Great shot of Melbourne - which is actually an oxymoron.
February 10th, 2015
@chimfa I went out on the sky deck too. Looking down 88 floors on glass is quite an experience. Deb came out there with me, but guess who was a bit of a chicken. (clue, begins with d and ends with e), ha ha.
