It is a quiet New Years Eve at our house. Covid cases are doubling every day in our local area and as we live in a tourist spot no doubt the cases will be doubling every day.
I can't believe that there is no Covid testing facility in our area until Tuesday. David's model railway pal thinks he has Covid he came down with symptoms on Wednesday but he can't get tested until next Tuesday. He is isolating at the moment and his wife and adult daughter have both got symptoms too. We can't get Rapid Antigen tests here either so no hope of testing that way either. Our Government is useless.
Our local Council is still putting on a firework display in Nelson Bay this evening as they think we all need something to cheer us up. Are you kidding me. Shame on them. I know we are all fed up of Covid but at some point we have to be sensible.
We will be spending a quiet New Years Eve. A group of us did have a barbeque planned at a friend's house but since the increase in Covid cases and because we are all over 70 or even 80 years old it has been cancelled.
The world looks so peaceful in this shot taken a couple of days ago, but the reality is something entirely different. Let us hope 2022 is much kinder to all of us.
I am taking a break from 365 for a while now. I will still be checking out your pictures but I won't be posting every day. I will post from time to time but I want to spend my time putting together a couple of photobooks and also getting back to family history too.
I have done family history for years but want to update my records and write up the stories of each of my family lines. It is a subject that is quite time consuming and at the moment I don't have time for family history and photography, so photography has to go for the time being.
I am really going to miss you all and will still post photos occasionally, but I have been struggling for the last couple of months with so many projects on the go. I promise I will be back but after 9 years on 365 I do need a bit of a break. Take care.
I wish you all a wonderful 2022, stay safe and Covid free.
A stunning photo to finish the year on Babs. Fav. Happy New Year to you both and keep safe and well during these trying times. Will miss your photos and narratives and humour.
Lovely image Babs and certainly a contrast to how things are in your area. I hope by the end of 2022 that Covid will not be such a feature in all our lives but it's difficult to be sure of that. Thanks for all your comments and fav's over the years.
Wonderful capture, looks peaceful, indeed. It only has to do with the situation from nature's point of view somehow. I remember how healthy lockdown for mother nature was... I don't know if Covid era will end soon, maybe it won't be in 2022, but hopefully in 2023 maybe. Wishing you a healthy and kinder New Year! Good luck with your family photo projects and stay in touch here when possible.
Fav. A stunning capture with beautiful colours, reflections and silhouettes. Covid19 is on the rampart here too and records of infections are being broken every day. People, however, seem not to be worried like it was last year and mix together as if the pandemic is just a joke.
In spite of all the increase in covid cases this is such a beautiful and tranquil scene - So very peaceful with the wonderful colours , the silhouettes and reflections ! fav . Enjoy the peace and quietness of your New Year's eve and health and happiness to both you and David
A stunning capture and scene. I will miss your wonderful photos Babs, but most of all your wonderfully witty comments. I have always wondered how you can cope with such a busy life, always there for others too. Wishing you a wonderful break to enjoy what you love doing. Happy New Year to you and your loved ones :-)
Great shot. Good for you Babs, there are times when we have to look at our priorities and make hard decisions. All the best with your family histories. You are “retiring” on a high with number 1 in the latest Top Twenty. Yippee!
Love and best wishes.
Oh my word, this took my breath away!
I’m sorry you’re taking a break but what a shot to leave on, huge fav!
Happy new year to you and I hope you will pop in regularly to see us all, take care xx
Oh this is exquisite, one of my favourite shots of yours this year!
So frustrating about the testing facilities and lack of rapid antigen tests. There are shortages here and some anti-vaccine idiots messed up a testing centre yesterday, but nowhere near the lack that you have. Hope David's train pal is okay and wishing you well in this height of the Summer season.
Beautiful picture. Happy new Year to you and yours and fully understand the need to pace yourself. Keep safe and lets hope 2022 will be a better one for all of us.
This is a stunning shot to end the year, and a definite fav! Sorry to hear that you are having a break from 365, but I do understand why. I hope your other projects go well. You will be missed! A Happy Healthy and Safe New Year to you and those that you love.
A beautiful peaceful scene! Cases of omicron are rising very fast here too & I lots of places are struggling to get testing kits. I hope you enjoy your break perusing your other projects. Take care !
Beautiful sunset for this last day of the year. Covid has been hitting rapidly here as well. Two of my close friends had to quarantine today because they were exposed to another friend who tested positive. I fortunately missed the gathering where they were exposed. I hope you are happy and healthy in 2022.
What a gorgeous capture (a fav for me) Being from the US, I certainly understand your thoughts regarding Covid. Our numbers increase everyday (up over 100% in my area alone) but no closures, no mandates, no regulations. I'm feel sure I will remain isolated and mask-wearing for years. Good thing I'm an introvert! I hope you can find some joy in your family history projects. Wishing you and yours a safe new year!
What a great final 2021 capture to share. The USA is just as bad handling covid probably worse. Have a safe 2022. I will miss all your amazing photos but glad you will be popping in occasionally. Happy New Year
I have almost finished putting together one of my photobooks. I have to just finish a few photos and then proof read it.
I hope to start on the second one next week.
@kjarn Thanks. I know, the situation is getting bad isn't it and we live in a tourist area so have got thousands of visitors to our area at the moment.
Hunter New England which is the area we come under and where half of the whole of NSW cases are. We are getting over 10,000 new cases a day here and testing is non-existent until Tuesday.
@casablanca Thanks. I will still stay in touch. Haven't heard how Rob is today but he still can't get tested. His daughter who was here for Christmas is positive so it is guaranteed he will be too.
@terryliv Don't get me started on Dominic he is a total f**kwit I thought Gladys had a few marbles missing but at least she had more than Perrottet. God help us.
I sort of agree with our new premier. The sooner we reach herd immunity the better, we just need everyone to be vaccinated and/or having had covid so we can go back to living and all the businesses can reopen. I have the feeling Covid isn’t going away and we really need to learn to live with it. I think our biggest problem is the people who do the wrong thing like that a***hole who started the Hunter New England cluster
Beautiful image. Enjoy your break and good luck with your family history. It can be fascinating but quite time-consuming. I get sucked into Ancestry and before I know it several hours have gone by.
What a gorgeous photo to end the year with! (big FAV!)
I totally understand that there is often not enough time in the day, especially when you have another big project going. What you shared about your family history is amazing!
I also hope the Covid situation is getting better. It is not good worldwide and I believe it is not getting away anytime soon, but not having the option to get a test is bad.
So for 2022 I wish you good luck and a lot of fun with your projects plus good health and happiness for you, your family and friends! Oh and I'm happy to read that you still will be checking in here ever now and then! I will be looking out for that ;)
What a fantastic photo in every way -- composition, color, lines, and evocative mood. I faved this much earlier and made a comment from my phone but I don't see it above. What I wanted to say is how much I have appreciated all your supportive comments and wish you a restorative break with time to pursue other interests but that photography will pull you back to 365 eventually. I'm starting Year 10 and I have taken breaks on and off since Year 1 ended. But I can't leave. :). Stay well and best wishes for 2022!
Dearest Babs, wishing you every happiness and progress with photobooks and family historying. Will miss your clever posts and TT placings and your kind and helpful comments.
A wonderful shot to end on, I will miss you as I am sure everyone else will. Enjoy your projects and I will see you now and then as time allows. Stay safe and happy 2022!
All the best to you, Babs! This is a wonderful composition to close out the year and to suggest hope for 2022. Enjoy your break and hopefully we'll see you soon. I'm still on my break, but it's hard to stay completely away, I've found! Happy New Year!
That's a wonderful picture to sign off with! Like you, we're very worried about the Covid trends appearing. Let's just hope that the new version really is much milder than the old.
And, isn't it funny how you can be retired and so busy? But so much better to be busy doing something you enjoy. Have a happy and productive 2022 and I'll look forward to seeing your occasional post. Cheers Rob
Beautiful capture Babs! Enjoy your time with your projects! Always good to take time to relax and recharge! I’ll look forward to seeing you back from time to time! Happy 2022!
Just noticed you hadn't posted for a while, so came to check :-) I know when I do photobooks it is a lengthy and intense process, so understand that something has to give! Stay safe, Babs
Lile Annie-Sue I had missed you so came to check you out. I hope you have escaped covid.. sounds crazy that you can't get a test for days when needed, I hope that improves. You carry on checking us all out and doing your photo albums and 'pop' in from time to time.. you will be missed.. All the very best for 2022..
@nickspicsnz Thanks, it is time consuming. I am not only doing my direct lines I am finding their brothers and sisters too and that adds to the story. I am working on one particular line at a time and I have got back to the early 1700s on the line I am working on at the moment.
@gamelee Ha ha, I know I will be back and I am today. I will pop in when time allows.
@anniesue Thanks. I have just finished my 365 photobook (I do that one gradually throughout the year) but at the end of the year I do the finishing touches and then proof read it. Just sent off the book so can't wait till I get a copy. Have just started putting together a photobook of my old photos too.
@julzmaioro Thanks Julia. I am popping in today to post a diary shot so will check out your photos while I have my morning cuppa.
Enjoy your break, you will be missed. Happy New Year to you both
Love and best wishes.

The Covid situation is so bad. Enjoy your projects, Babs!

Enjoy your break, looking forward to your return!
Stay safe and covid free in 2022!
