Following on from yesterday's photo, sadly the Rising Sun is no longer standing and another second cousin of mine, Philip, took these photos when he witnessed the pub being demolished about three years ago. I guess you should call it The Setting Sun now.
He was there to collect the keystone from over the archway which you can see in the bottom picture. The keystone says J H 1876. Joseph Hill is Philip's great great grandfather too and now the keystone stands proudly in Philip's garden along with a few more relics from the pub.
Must have been a coaching inn going by the height and width of the entrance to the backyard, sad to see it’s demise but at least you know it’s fate Babs:)
Good to keep a memento like that. Always a sad sight seeing somewhere previously beloved demolished. I have a polished wooden floor tile from the church where we got married that they sold off as mementos to fundraise when the building was entirely redesigned and rebuilt. They kept the foundation stone and relaid it with the bishop.....I have a photograph of The Young Fella as a teeny baby standing on before it went back in the new wall!
Nice to hear the end of the story about the Rising Sun, even though it is a sad end. Good that Philip was able to rescue some things from the demolition.

@casablanca How nice that you have a keepsake from the church where you were married.
