Hiding in Plain Sight by onewing

Hiding in Plain Sight

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words on yesterday's photo, I will get back to you when I can, but I have been out all day again today.

Grocery shopping this morning and then out for lunch with friends and out in Maitland this afternoon, just got home and I am in need of a cup of tea.

Here we are with another flower photo. This will probably be it for the year now I suppose because I don't take photos of flowers very often at all.

When I saw this one though it looks so beautiful in the sunlight. It has been a fabulously sunny day today.

It wasn't until I saw this on the computer that I noticed the ladybird on the flower and it made me smile. Reminded me of Zoe. She loved ladybirds and even had pyjamas and slippers with ladybird designs on them, so it seemed significant to post this photo today.

No idea what the flower is though. As I say I am not really a flower person, maybe somebody can enlighten me.
What an absolutely stunning flower - gorgeous colour. I love that little ladybird. It's always such a bonus when you see something on the computer that you didn't know was there when you took the photo.

This is lovely.. there seems to be a shortage of ladybirds around my garden..

I have no idea Babs, maybe part of the Cannon or lily family. Gorgeous none the less. And how lovely that the lady bird was on there. Maybe Zoe is letting you know she is close by.

Beautiful Babs I don't know what it is but to me it's similar to out Iris plants but I don't think it is!
March 24th, 2016
It is a canna lily Babs. @365projectorgjenfurj was on the right track! Love it's colours and the ladybird is an added bonus from Zoe :)

Like the colours and patterns.

Gorgeous bright and vivid colours, I used to have a canna lily this colour, love the little visitor :)
March 24th, 2016
Very pretty colours, but I am drawn to the Ladybird, great lighting too.
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful flower, Love the colour and the added plus of having a lady bird.
March 24th, 2016
Gorgeous, a real beauty, love the ladybird....I looked up my little book & Per Ian Cooke's book on cannas, a.k.a. 'Florence Vaughan,' with "large, frilled, orchid-shaped flowers in lemon-yellow marked with orange-blotching and spotting."
March 24th, 2016
Great capture, fantastic colours and a bonus ladybug!
March 24th, 2016

Lee
Wonderful bright colour and nicely included Ladybird.
March 24th, 2016
@susiemc Yes Sue the ladybird was a bonus. Didn't see it in the bright sunlight of today. Hot too, reached 30 degrees C this afternoon. Just that bit warmer when we go slightly inland for the day.
March 24th, 2016
@julzmaioro I very rarely see ladybirds where I live, but at Maitland this afternoon and here one was.
March 24th, 2016
@365projectorgjenfurj @thistle @gilbertwood @hermann @happysnaps @maree_sanderson Thank you all for identifying it for me as a canna lily and Valerie added the bonus of identifying this particular variety too as a 'Florence Vaughan' canna. Well done to all of you.
March 24th, 2016
@thistle @quietpurplehaze @dianeburns @shirleybankfarm @saulgoode @gamelee Thank you all and also great that it has been identified as a 'Florence Vaughan' Canna Lily. I told you I wasn't really a flower person.
The ladybird was a real bonus too. It was such bright sunlight today that I didn't see the ladybird until I saw the photo on the computer. Just for Zoe I think.

Beautiful shot and how great you caught that little lady bug on the flower.
March 24th, 2016
Such a petty canna and the bonus of a ladybird is lovely.
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful ladybird!
March 24th, 2016
Excellent capture, especially of the ladybird!
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful
March 24th, 2016
Lovely capture, colors
March 24th, 2016
It's a Canna Babs & a very colourful one too. I have some in pots but they hardly ever flower as we don't have enough strong sunlight. By the time they are ready to flower the cold weather arrives & they give up & hide.
March 24th, 2016
Such a wonderful shot, love the little ladybug.
March 24th, 2016
A gorgeous colour and the ladybird is a great bonus! I see that others have already given you the name of the canna lily.
March 24th, 2016
Crafty those ladybirds although it's colour didn't blend in with the background. Lovely capture.
March 24th, 2016
So colourful and added bonus of the ladybird!
March 24th, 2016
Perhaps you should do more flowers. You do them well!
March 24th, 2016
Gorgeous colour. Love the ladybird. Whenever I take this type of macro shot I discover some form of bug on it but they tend to be on the ugly unpleasant side whilst you have got something that enhances.
March 24th, 2016
Lovely colors and a great shot.
March 24th, 2016
Lovely colours and lady bird!
March 24th, 2016
Beautiful...Fav
March 24th, 2016
@paulmann Thanks for identifying it. You will have to move to Australia, they grow like wildfire here.
March 24th, 2016
@theboxmanreturns Thanks. Always nice when something appears in a photo that you didn't spot when you took the shot.
March 24th, 2016
@mittens @merrelyn @maskerade @chimfa @bkbinthecity @seattlite @kategoring @salza @ladymagpie @craftymeg @helenhall @pippie @rjb71 @tonygig Thanks everyone and also thanks for identifying the flower for me. as I say I am not really a flower person. Probably because I used to get terrible hay fever when I was a child.
March 24th, 2016
Amazing, even in such a bright surroundings, I can spot it immediately.
March 24th, 2016
Love this colourful flower and the bonus ladybird
March 24th, 2016
That little ladybird certainly camouflages well on the pretty flower. We used to have some lovely Canna plants but lost them all a few years back when we had a particularly cold winter.
March 25th, 2016
Love your ladybird touch on this glorious canna.
March 25th, 2016

March 25th, 2016
Beautiful flower Babs and pleased you found out what it is. I agree that the Ladybird is maybe a sign from Zoe that all is well, she's looking out for you.
