Part of our steam train journey on Sunday was to Carrington and Port Waratah Coal Services. It is the line that the coal trains from the Hunter Valley end up at.
I thought this photo would be good for the industrial theme.
@hermann The coal dust isn't too much of a problem really. As you can see they spray the coal continuously to keep down the dust and it works really well. They go to great lengths apparently to keep the dust to a minimum.
Not often we see a coal heap these days Babs! All the coal industry in Britain is gone! Sad & not good for industry but glad no one has to go below ground anymore! Great industrial photo.
Interesting capture lots going on here, great composition, depth of field and lovely light, could I tempt you into having a go at turning an image into a work of art and tagging it ETSOOI-66 entry closes midnight this Friday:)
Nice industrial shot Babs
Here in Alberta the current government has plans to slowly phase out all of our coal plants in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly
@pcoulson I saw that you were histing the etsooi challenge and I would have loved to have taken part, but I am flat out at the moment and no time to pay too much attention to photos or 365. It is why I am posting multiple shots of events photographed on one day. Sorry about that.
@happypat Thanks Pat. The steel industry has gone from Newcastle now, but the coal is still being mined in the Hunter Valley and ends up here in Newcastle to be transported onto the bulk carrier ships destined for overseas.
Great industrial shot and interesting how they keep the coal dust down. Some of that coal will probably end up in the UK as we have stopped virtually all our mining but still use coal
