HL Samarinda

I am posting a bit early today because we have got friends coming for dinner this evening.

This is the last photo of my walking tour around Newcastle hope you have enjoyed it.

In yesterday's photo you saw us at the Clarendon Hotel having lunch. After leaving the Clarendon we walked back along the waterfront to the wharf where we caught the ferry back to Stockton.

At the wharf we were lucky enough to see this Bulk Carrier being escorted out of Newcastle Harbour, to the open sea, by three tug boats.
I'll bet this beast has a few sea tales to tell. Impressive looking vessel, nicely captured Babs 😊

looks like a great walk Babs

Gosh, that is ginormous and the tugs are so tiny in comparison. Wandering around on that would be like negotiating a large convoluted village.. imagine the amount of fuel it gets through.. my ghast is flabbered..
good shot Babs..

What a sight to see. Those tugs are tiny compared to that big ship. Impressive.

Wow what an image to end your walking tour on Babs, detail from foreground to horizon, with lovely composition and colour:)

Funny you should say that, we have an appointment with a guy today to look at putting shutters into our downstairs living areas where we presently have curtains! Hope you have had a lovely evening with your dinner guests. Nice shot. I always enjoy water traffic.

@jorlam I love that your ghast is flabbered, made me laugh :))))))

Mighty little tugboats strutting their stuff :)
June 11th, 2017
Massive isn't it? We have a Freeport at Marsaxlokk where huge bulk carriers unload their cargo (containers mostly) and smaller vessels load them again for distribution to other ports around Europe.
June 11th, 2017
Those ships always impress me, they are so large
June 11th, 2017
It is so big! Must have been an interesting sight to see it being pulled out by those little tugs
June 11th, 2017
Harbors are so interesting, that app is huge!
June 11th, 2017
Nice composition

Lovely shot and such pretty calming colors. Love the pop of orange, too.

Brings back memories of my Merchant Navy Days...
June 11th, 2017
I like your composition and your blue sky!
June 11th, 2017
Well spotted and captured. It amazing me how such small ships can tug such a big one.
June 11th, 2017
Great capture, composition
June 11th, 2017
Goodness that is such a big boat! You will have had a great time with all of your friends!
June 11th, 2017
A super capture, looks like a very large boat
June 11th, 2017
good capture, certainly looks big. enjoy dinner
June 11th, 2017
I was going to say that looks like a big ship. But it probably isn't by today's standards, is it? Nice observation.
June 11th, 2017
Have a great time. Great shot.
June 11th, 2017
Super capture of a very imposing vessel, great capture.
June 11th, 2017
Great to see the huge ship with the tug boats to give some idea of just how massive it is xx
June 11th, 2017
Great shot of this huge vessel.
I will do on you request to day. No problem .

Those tankers are amazing- great shot! I like seeing it with the tugs. It seems so odd that something so powerful has to be guided out of the harbor- but they do!
June 11th, 2017
Great capture of this big vessel.
June 11th, 2017
Awesome tanker!
June 12th, 2017
Such a busy port. Great shot.
June 12th, 2017
Gee, that's a big 'un Babs. I assume it's a tanker?
June 12th, 2017
@golftragic It's a bulk carrier they carry either grains, coal or ore. In this case it is coal. Tankers I believe carry liquids or gasses.
June 12th, 2017
@onewing Silly me, I should've thought of that. We get 'em here for wheat and wood-chips. Thanks Babs.
June 12th, 2017
@paul10 I bet it has too. I believe it is heading for South Korea on this voyage with a cargo of coal.
June 12th, 2017
@jorlam I love watching the ships being escorted from the harbour. The tug boats and the marine pilot steering the ships do a fabulous job of getting the ships in and out of Newcastle safely.
There is also a dredger that operates on a daily basis to keep the seabed deep enough for ships to travel in and out of port.

We had a fabulous evening with friends. Always nice to have friends round and share a meal, a chat and a few bottles of wine with them.

I love watching the ships in Newcastle, the traffic is constant as each ship is loaded with either containers or coal. This ship I believe is on its way to South Korea with a cargo of coal.
The tug boats are so powerful and do a great job of escorting the ships in and out of the harbour.
June 12th, 2017
I was going to ask if you knew what was on it... It looks so huge compared to the little tugs.
June 13th, 2017
Newcastle....where we had a picnic in the car ' cos it was raining- hard.
June 14th, 2017
@stephanies The tugs may look small but they are very powerful boats.
June 14th, 2017
@chimfa Yes that's right I remember you saying that. You will have to come again when the weather is fine.
