@hermann A lovely outlook indeed. There is a house just to the left of where I took this photo, it is called Jesmond House and apparently the chap who bought it in 2007 paid over $7 million dollars for it.
You have introduced me well to your home Babs. I saw the picture as I was scrolling down and thought - that is Newcastle! (Not the Newcastle my Mother was from though). How lovely to have those open air baths.
@helenhall Thanks Helen. Newcastle has so much history. It is about 60 km from where I live at Nelson Bay.
This particular ocean baths was built in 1922 and another ocean baths a couple of km along the coastline at Merewether in 1935, both built for public use. The first ocean bath so to speak though was the Bogey Hole and it was constructed using convict labour in 1820 for Lt Col James Thomas Morisset who was the Commandant of the convict settlement in Newcastle at that time. I must go to the Bogey Hole soon and get some photos to post on 365. It has been closed for a while because of repairs.
