Fort Scratchley by onewing

Fort Scratchley

We have had a lovely day today after all the rain. A nice day out and a lovely lunch. No need to cook dinner this evening, or do the washing up.

Up on the hill in Newcastle you can see Fort Scratchley. It was formerly a coastal defence installation, now an interactive museum.
Looks an interesting place to explore. Such an Aussie name - Scratchley! Nice to see everything bright and beautiful again after the rain.

@casablanca @peadar @pattyblue @nicolecampbell Thanks. The weather was very mixed. It started quite grey this morning at home but by the time we got to Newcastle the skies had cleared. The clouds appeared more and more though as the day went on, but it has been quite warm after our rather cool weather the last few days. We did desperately need the rain, but it is always nice to have a rain free day though. More rain on the way over the next few days I believe.

@julzmaioro My sister is the one who loves banana sandwiches and she got me hooked on them too last time she visited. Tonight though I just made a fruit salad and yoghurt with the fruit I had in the fridge - grapes, apple, pear, blueberries, banana and water melon. It was jolly refreshing.

You certainly get out and about, and I am all for no washing up! Your shot reflects the cheerful weather. Long may it continue.

@happypat In 1828 am earthen battery was constructed on the site but in 1876 the British Government sent Major General Sir William Jervois and Lieutenant Colonel Peter Scratchley to advise on naval defences. Under the direction of Jervois and Scratchley, Colonial Architect James Barnet oversaw construction of the Fort and it was renamed Fort Scratchley after Lieutenant Colonel Peter Scratchley.
