Today's animal photo is of my friend Jo and her dog Sam.
Sam had to have an operation and so that he wouldn't pick, scratch and lick at his stitches, Jo put a tee shirt on him and tied it at the back with an elastic band.
Sam is a very placid dog and seemed to accept the fact that he had to wear clothes for a few days.
All went well until the night before he had to go back to the vet to have his stitches removed. Jo decided that the wound had healed up enough and on the last night took the tee shirt off him.
In the morning the stitches were gone. Sam had picked at them and swallowed them, so when Jo went back to the vet the job had been done.
All Jo had to do was to keep an eye on Sam, let nature take its course, and wait for blue stitches to appear.
What a cutie of a dog, I couldn't believe for a second that he would cause trouble :-) My dog had to wear a cone when he had stitches. He destroyed it pretty quickly.
Sammy is a Spoodle (a cross between a spaniel and a poodle) and he has grown quite a bit since this shot. He looks like a large teddy bear now. He is such a placid dog and he very rarely even barks. He cut his foot a few weeks ago and Jo had to put a sock on it and when she took him out for a walk he wore the sock with a plastic bag round it. He had that "look what she has done to me now' look again then too.
Jo didn't want to put a cone round his neck which is why she came up with the tee shirt idea. It worked very well and Sam I suspect really enjoyed the attention he got while wearing it.
I suspect the vet did charge full price Kathie even though Sammy removed the stitches himself.
