Originally built as offices for barristers this prominent corner building features ornate detailing and a rather whimsical bust of what appears to be a barrister above the architect's own name EC Yeomans.
The brick and stucco building is described, using an Australian architectural reference, as being in the Federation Freestyle. It continues to be used as lawyers' chambers to this day.
What a gorgeous building! Up early (temporary) and just checking in.....back to bed in a few minutes. Love the color of this building and the detail is lovely as well.
@888rachel Thanks Rachel. the brick wall behind this building is the wall of the old David Cohen & co warehouse built in 1901, so only 3 years after the chambers building. I believe the Cohen building is being renovated now into apartments.
@ibt Thanks Ilona. I was lucky that there were no cars around. this was taken on a Sunday and I had to stand in the middle of the road to get this shot. The things we do for a photo.
@angelar Thanks Angela. This building was erected in 1898 and the wall behind it is the wall of the old David Cohen & co warehouse built in 1901, so only 3 years after the chambers building. I believe the Cohen building is being renovated now into apartments. You can see that the brickwork of the Cohen building is quite old.
@bkbinthecity Thanks for the follow Brian. In this album I am doing photos from Newcastle which is one of our oldest cities in Australia. There are probably other architectural buildings that you would be interested in. Thanks for the follow.
@onewing Just overnighting I think, Babs. I'm doing a road trip from Melbourne to Brisbane along the coast, so not even sure what day, yet. I thing probably around the 26th September. I do want to photograph around the railway in Newcastle, before it disappears forever....
