Tyrrell House - Newcastle by onewing

Tyrrell House - Newcastle

This handsome red brick building housed the administrative offices of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle which provided administrative support for the Anglican clergy and parishes throughout the Diocese. It was designed by architects Witt & Merewether and the building is named after the first Bishop of Newcastle, the Rev William Tyrrell (1849-1879). The foundation stone was laid on 24 November 1920 by the 5th Bishop of Newcastle the Rev Reginald Stephen and the building was opened on 4 July the following year.
