Street Art - Day 22 by onewing

Street Art - Day 22

Today's street art is by Umpel and is on Railway Street at Cooks Hill in Newcastle. If anyone is interested here is a link of him creating the artwork. He draws the outline first and then spray paints the rest. http://viewfromkingstreet.tumblr.com/post/12920339515/viewfromkingstreet-ganesha-in-street-art-form

This was painted in 2011.

Umpel is a Newcastle based artist and designer who also creates cartoon-like works with playfully
bright and exciting colours and psychedelic influences. Well versed in both commercial and artistic ventures, Umpel’s varied and experimental skillset can be seen in both street and digital arenas.

I posted some of his work in my street art folder last year too.

A bit like Ganesh, the Hindu God. I wonder if it was supposed to have any religious meaning.

@888rachel @hermann It is Ganesh and if you check out the link you will see that it is Umpel's favourite God. http://viewfromkingstreet.tumblr.com/post/12920339515/viewfromkingstreet-ganesha-in-street-art-form

@beryl @chimfa @thistle @teachntravel @seattlite @shailestha @denisefuller @dolphin @quintus @epcello @derekvickers @ziggy77 @april16 @eyesmile Thank you all. I think Newcastle is the street art capital of Australia. The streets are full of it. They have three festivals a year and all the artworks are commissioned. They have the Hit the Bricks Festival, the TiNA Festival (This is not art its a lifestyle) and the SAW Festival (Street Art Walking), so there are lots of opportunities to capture the artworks.

@kathiecb @pcoulson Thanks ha ha. I didn't have much choice about including the fence in the picture. This painting is on the wall of a factory and next to it is a single storey cottage, this is front fence of that house. I would have had to go in the garden to get the whole painting.
