Over the next three days I will be posting sections of a mural street art which is in Mayfield. It isn't part of any of the festivals, but is a mural about the swamplands of Mayfield. Along the mural the following words are written:
"Many years ago this area was wetlands and part of the lands of the Worimi nation. Flora and fauna like these shown here would have been common.
120 years ago this area was still swamp. "Swamp" covers a wide range of aquatic environments but with flat land a hill and a creek nearby it was most likely a freshwater coastal wetlands.
Even today after continuous wet weather this park becomes mushy and sometimes herons still feed here."
Today's shot shows almost all of the mural and over the next two days I will show sections of it in a collage.
Well we don't have swamplands in the uk, so this is something different for me to look at I like the way the artist has even painted the drain pipe. I do like your street art photos
@888rachel Thanks Rachel. I think because of the various festivals in Newcastle for street art over the last few years, there is very little actual graffiti. I don't think the vandals compete with true art.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. This isn't the whole mural either. couldn't get a decent shot of it all in one go. It was a huge task for a local Mayfield artist.
