I just wanted to show you the first image I took of the wheel with the lights - see yesterday's images. This was one turn of the wheel and when I looked at the back of the camera I could not believe my eyes!! As you can see there is a slight reflection in the water on the floor and it was from this image that we decided to have more turns of the wheel with Sarah @pixiemac standing at the back to avoid the breaks in the light trails. Sarah then poured lots more water onto the floor and I moved back to get the whole of the light trails plus the reflection which created the illusion of a ball. I thought you might be interested how we got to the final image - Ball of Light.
@terryliv Terry if you look at the wheel itself in yesterday's photo Wheel of Light you will see the metal rod through the wheel itself. One end is on the floor and that end stays in the same place as the wheel is rolled round in a circle. Sarah held onto the top end of the rod and turned the wheel round in the circle. She stood at the back of the wheel and I completed one rotation in this first shot but I stopped/closed the shutter when the wheel was facing me. You can see that there are a few gaps in the light lines. On the later shots I made sure the wheel had turned full circle and was facing towards Sarah when I closed the shutter. That way any gaps in the lines were at the back of the light ball. It really was amazing when I looked at the pattern the lights on the wheel created. The closest thing I can think of like this is the Spirograph Barb's kids had when they were young and the line patterns you could make.
This is really wonderful! You two had such a great time with the discoveries! I'd love to know more about how Sarah came to discover these tools! Too fun!
