This is Finlay in the garden digging into the grassy bank as he can smell/hear something in there. There are small holes already - smaller than rabbit holes but we are not sure what it is. Finlay doesn't care - he is determined to dig it out!! I will have to repair the garden before we leave!! I think Westies were bred to be ratters so I think this is Finlay doing what he was bred to do.
Lovely collage. We could do with Finlay in our garden at the moment, we have a few feral rabbits around and I think one has got into our garden. Can't find any gaps under fences etc, but he is in here somewhere.
@Weezilou I don't know if they make the hole or just take up residence in a hole! However, when I see a hole, I think snake! That is from my horse riding days. I would avoid them...
@gardenfolk Quite interesting! Having spent my h.s. years in Arizona, I thought snakes just curled up under rocks to stay in the shade! I have heard tales of horses rearing, however, now that you mention it!
@Weezilou@gardenfolk we do have adders here in the UK and grass snakes. I think the adders would bite if you disturbed it. I think they are to be found in long grass. I know in a hot summer they warn you about adders in sand dunes at the sea side. My knowledge is not good as I have thankfully never seen one! I don't think they dig holes though. Certainly whatever is living in the garden of this house is probably a vole. The holes look like rabbit holes and there is obviously a warren in the grassy bank as numerous holes but much smaller than rabbit holes.
@pamknowler As long as Finlay has fun and is safe! My son and family just moved into a new home and found a rattlesnake next to their front door! They have 3 young boys too!
@pamknowler I know!!! They called the fire dept to come out and capture it as it rattled its tail at them! BTW...my dog Sophie fit in our mailbox on March 24th if you want to see!
