I was going to call this image the 'the trolley bag lady', but then decided it was not appropriate.........then I noticed a little Pigeon in the left hand corner, so I had a title for it !
An attempt at street photography, a candid black and white of an old lady walking through our local town centre.
It's had a serious crop to take out some clutter (shop names, posters etc.) in order to isolate the lady.
I did take a picture as the lady crossed the road against the stark background of a brick wall, but the auto focus of the camera picked up on the wall and the lady was a bit soft (pity because from a composition point of view it was a better picture)
I do seem to 'letter box' quite a few of my images, but I do like the way a 'letter box' can emphasis or isolate the subject.
I will have to work a little on my street photography as I am still not confident pointing it around and clicking. It's OK when you are in a tourist area (Nottingham city centre is easy to do street photography), but when you are in a suburb of the city it is not as easy !
@andycoleborn thanks Andy, Dastardly and Muttley, now that is going back in time !! btw : hope you did not mind my 'long comment' on your mirror image picture yesterday !
@seattle Constance, thanks for the comments. I did not know the Pigeon was there until I uploaded the image to my computer ! I agree that the Pigeon is a little too close to the edge.
If I was clever I could copy the Pigeon in Photoshop Elements, move him a little nearer to the lady and then dodge and burn him so he was easily seen. I don't have the skills to do that and to be honest I probably don't want to have those skills or even think I should alter an image in that way. Phewww ...long reply !!
I've think I have got a long way to go to be as good as you at street photography and I hope it is OK to say that when I look at your images I see them as a 'master class' in street photography.
@phil_howcroft That is so kind of you and I have so much to learn too. I agree with you in regards to Photoshopping. I do however, play with shadows and contrast. Thanks for comments on my photos too, always appreciate feedback. Looking forward to more of your creative street shots.
@seattle Constance, we all play with shadows and contrast in black and white images, it's the contrast and tonal range that make black and white photography so interesting. Phil
Really like the way you framed her between the 2 posts. Her legs extended and their shape visible through the skirt give a real sense of energy. What could have been a sad picture is actually very uplifting. And connecting the stray pigeon with the rest of the composition adds a sense of fun. All in all a great picture.
@allie912 Allison thanks for the comments and I am pleased you like it. The lady did walk quite fast and I was lucky to capture her 'striding out'. Thanks again for your kind comments
@hobgoblinwychwo John, thanks for taking time to comment, As for 'was it her dinner', well I am not ware that Pigeon Pie is a local delicacy in Nottingham !
@sarahhorsfall Sarah, thanks for the comment, I was actually browsing your album last night..browsing followers of followers of followers etc. and I noticed you already had crocuses out in Manchester..it must be a mild bit on Manc as we have no sightings of the colours yet :)
@phil_howcroft Hi Phil - yes, Manchester's got it's very own ecosystem - usually involves a lot of rain! Those crocuses just opened at the weekend - such a welcome sight :o)
@sleepdozer57 I spotted my first snowdrops in Manchester this morning - but they were out of photographic reach, in someone's garden - still lovely to have finally seen some, though!
This excellent piccy made me sad,the bag looks as if from Wilkinsons the cut price bargain store, the shoes probably also, an OAP on a state pension and how much is a retired tax inspector on....yes no wonder she shops at wilkinsons...however nice picture very stark in black and white, sometimes black and white says it all...thank you...
