Still catching up on my postings and this is from our Easter vacation.
On Thursday it was a beautiful hot and sunny morning, but by lunch time the clouds had rolled in off the mountains and we were left with a dull and windy afternoon.
We caught the bus to the nearby town of Corralejo (1 euro 20 cents for an adult single fare) and had a wander for a couple of hours.
Corralejo was once a small fishing village but has now grown into a 'Euro Resort'.
The harbour, port area and old town, still retain some charm and beauty. The main street of the town is a rather long strip of 'euro bars', English / Irish / German / pubs, restaurants, souvenir shops, supermarkets and night clubs ....rather tacky and a tad sad....I'd like to add that 'rather tacky and a tad sad' is only my opinion...1000's of happy Corralejo tourists will probably disagree with me !!
Anyway onto the photo, I noticed some graffiti on a wall near the harbour and decided it had to be photographed...I assume the graffiti is supporting some political group seeking independence from Spain for the Canary Islands...However when I googled the phrase it also returned a you tube techno dance song called 'viva canarias'...so you can judge whether the graffiti is political , music or both !!!
I haven't posted a black and white image for a while, so I hope this works for you
@sleepdozer57 Thanks Peter, yes I wanted a person in the image, I'm not sure if she is a tourist or a local, but it does work either way.
As for 'vacation', well I worked for an American company for several years, so the culture of using the word 'vacation' still resides in the company despite us now having new none American owners !!! Gee bud :)
excellent shot, b&w works perfectly and an interesting commentary I would have assumed it was political I did think it was Cuba at first glance (and thought - hey Phil likes to travel!).
@whippeteer Frances, I'm not very well traveled, a few holiday spots in the med and Europe and a work trip to Detroit are about as far as I have traveled ! Still you don't always need to go to the other side of the world to get a good picture....especially when there is a whippet close by :)
A great photo in B&W. The posture and positioning of the woman adds interest to the composition and creates a story that leaves the viewer wondering. Well done.
The black and white is perfect for this photo, making it more edgy. An interesting photo with the potential to read so much into it which I like. I visited Corralejo a few years ago before it became as touristy as it is now ... it was quaint, quiet and quite lovely. Friends have subsequently been and told me how tacky it's becoming.
@gill Thank you Gill, your comments are always appreciated, I've seen pictures of Corralejo from many years ago and it did look quaint , but nothing stays the same. Maybe the Graffiti is a comment on how the town has evolved !

The woman just adds to the image, its more real and important somehow.
