'Backlit whippet and wife' in Bestwood Country Park
I extended the bank holiday by taking a couple of extra days leave from work.
On Tuesday morning, we went for a walk to Bestwood country park. The park is within walking distance from our house and the weather was slightly better than the 'rainy bank holiday Monday'.
The photo is shot on 'colliers path', which as the name suggests was a path once used by colliers leading from the Redhill / Arnold area to the old Bestwood pit (coal mine).
The sun is shining through the trees and is 'back lighting' my wife and Ruby.
I've used the trees to frame the image, which is shot on a long zoom using my little panasonic.
The lighting is quite difficult, with large areas of contrasting light.
My android app ...Endomondo Sports tracker ...said we walked 4.4 miles, which coupled with Ruby's early morning walk, meant our little whippet did 5.5 miles before midday and before her dinner (we call 'lunch' ...'dinner' in the north / midlands !!)
Anyway, I hope you like this scene of our walk in the woods ! My wife said it would be better if only Ruby was in the frame !!
@meredithwb thanks Meredith, my wife does not like having her photo took, she said this was OK because she was mall in the frame :)..the walk was good, it's a nice autumn walk too , when the leaves turn golden , but hey summers not arrived yet :)
No - it needs you wife as she's so beautifully haloed!! Ruby is beautiful but would be a little small as the subject. As it is I think this is a really super shot of a summer's morning.
I love how you've captured them in the sunlight .. and all the different greens in the trees, with the dappled sunshine .. looks like a lovely place on a lovely day :o)
The first thing I thought of when I saw this photo was Oh a front view of your wife & lovely it is !!! The trees are beautiful & frame the picture perfectly , what a lovely walk ! I expect you are all getting very fit !!
Beautiful, great subject and the backlighting is so pretty. Very good exposure - as you say this lighting is a challenge - the scene is so quintessentially English :-) It is still dinner to me and Nick (Doncaster) but I don't suppose Ruby cares as long as it tastes good!. Ruby is packing in the miles. I used to take mine 13 miles when they were little - I'd run walk or cycle that was in York.
A beautiful shot Phil..the lighting is excellent..the path reminds me of where I walk here in the summer. A great photo of your wife and Ruby seems to be enjoying the walk.
@judithg Ha Ha Judith I spotted the 'halo' to :) ...some might say she needs a 'halo' to put up with me :) . It looks like we are in for a good weekend of summer sun, so we should all get some good 365 pics. Enjoy 'Trent Bridge' tonight I expect some nice floodlit cricket shots appearing on your 365 ..oh a a nice arty river trent shot too :)
@whippeteer Thanks Frances, it is always a pleasure to walk Ruby, even when she is a bit naughty ....she doesn't like walking in the rain !!! Yes we clock up the miles with her in a week :)
@allie912 Thank you Allison, as for summer being 'full on'..we get excited in the UK if the temperature reaches 21C (70F)...this weekend we are predicted 25C (77F) in the middle of England , so we are all getting excited !!!...If the temp ever gets to 30C (86F) it makes front page headlines in the national newspapers !!!
@patsyjphillips Thank you Patsy, we enjoy our walks :) especially when I come home after work , the early evening walk is a good wind down after a day in the office and a long commute
@sleepdozer57 hi Peter, Ruby had been 'off the lead' right up until we got to where I photographed the picture...there are a few bridleways in that part of the woods so we did not want a face off between whippet and horse !!! She normally has a good run / gallop on the recreation / footie field too (provided no other dogs are around) !!!
when is Ruby allowed off lead - in the fields etc.. how's the training going?
Thanks for all your comments
