Happy 125th Birthday .....Lowry at The Tate Modern
When I opened my browser at work Google told me it was LS Lowry's 125th birthday today.
I immediately knew what picture to share with you tonight ....It's from my archive and one I took when I first discovered digital photography. This is 'back in the day' ....2004...on a weekend trip to London....I went for a wander in the Tate Modern while my wife admired the view of the river in the sun !!
So why Lowry at the Tate Modern? There's no pictures I hear you say!!... Well according to Brian and Michael ......"he painted matchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs, he painted kids on the corner of the street that were sparking clogs".......and the people in this image do look a bit like matchstalk men (and women). So this is Lowry at the Tate Modern !!!
Actually LS Lowry, painted a cracking picture of Burnden Park....the former home of my footie team , Bolton Wanderers ....a place I visited hundreds of times over the 30 years I watched them at Burnden, before they moved to the Reebok Stadium.
So suitable today Phil, I love your little figures...you had a good eye even when you were young(er) !!!! I love the matchstick men song I heard it yesterday on Radio Lancashire.
I liked Lowry (saw some of his paintings at the castle years ago) and Brian and Michael. I think my dad might have bought me the record. I think this is a very good and suitable pic to mark the day. Did you ever see that BBC documentary on Lowry? It was very interesting.
I love Lowry and I think he would like the 'big room' at Tate Modern. It's always been between things when I've been. Never seen the match painting - if I ever have more money than I know what to do with I'll spend it on a Lowry! Having said that - my friend had a lovely one that her dad painted - he was a very talented 'faker' - that would do me!
