Ribes Sanguineum - flowering redcurrants

We call this our flowering redcurrant bush....I thought it was a name we made up name .... but it's not a made up name ...it is actually called a "flowering redcurrant"....Ribes Sanguineum is it's proper posh name.

Shot on a wide open aperture to give it a fuzzy background ...sharpened a tad in GIMP....shot on my 50mm lens, which is not the ideal camera lens for macro shots, but it does make nice shots with shallow DOF.
I don't think it actually produces fruit, though, does it? Just these lovely rich coloured flowers!

Mum's got some (lots) of these down at the wild end of her garden.... I've always know it as a redcurrant bush...

@maggiemae you are right maggie...no fruit :)

@andycoleborn cheers andy.... the currant bit is a bit strange...maybe because they look like currants

It's my favourite - we used to make 'mud tattoos' using the leaves when we were kids - them were't days....

Lovely shot - are these are the ones that smell like cat pee if you put them in a vase as cut flowers? Sorry to be vulgar!
