Dew Claw Injured Again by phil_howcroft

Dew Claw Injured Again

Ruby with a bandage on her dew claw.

This is the third time she has injured her claw.

She did this when I sent her up the garden just before bedtime. Racing around the garden in the dark, chasing imaginary night creatures (well I cannot see 'em) , but then I'm not a whippet dog with fantastic nose and hearing senses !

The vet had to snip the end off and give her an antibiotic jab and told us to bathe it in salt water and keep it protected when she is in the house (so she cannot nibble and lick the injured bit).

Mind you, it doesn't seem to bother her, she is still as daft and cheeky as normal !

Oh dear poor Ruby in the wars again....she looks very pathetic! Costing money too....you will have to put her board up!! She still looks lovely though! What you reckon of the football tonight Phil.....Preston did well I thought, played their guts out.....should have been 2/1. Goalkeeper never touched Rooney....he rolled over !

@happypat thanks Pat, yes Preston did well, all three Man Utd goals had a touch of doubt over them, I think Preston scored too soon, they could have done with scoring in the 81st minute giving united little time to regroup

She looks such a friendly dog. I'm not a dog person myself, but this is a nice shot.

@phil_howcroft you're right!

Might pay to keep this dew claw clipped short, well both of them! Perhaps you do. They don't wear the claw down like they do with the ones on their paws! She is very sleek looking!

Aw, poor thing! Perhaps a pair of bootie would help? My Murphy wears them in the winter. His pads stick to the ice when temps drop and the salt we use to keep people from sliding irritates his feet. After a brief period of adjustment, he now loves wearing them!

Ohhhh what a sweetie!! Such a good little patient. She is really adorable! Love how one little ear sticks up, like she is listening very closely to you. Hope she gets well soon and you captured the detail in her sweet face so well Phil.

She looks so alert, Phil, and very cute, too. Some running along our beaches would mend her paw instantly with the salty sea.

Aww poor Ruby. Those little claws can be a horrid nuisance. You've captured her personality so well here.

Aww bless her - will they not remove it if it keeps bothering her?

Poor thing, she does look slightly pitiful. But at the same time, very dignified.

Poor little poppet. Looking so glamourous despite her injusry and beautifully wrapped bandage. Outr pedigrees don't have them nipped off when new Borneo. Old Bobbie whippet (RIP) had awful trouble with her's forever damaging them. Luckily her offspring (vet refused to remove them when they were born - I think they only do pedigrees maybe some draw the line at that too - even though I said Bobbie had had nothing but trouble with hers) Philip and Fat Billie have not had trouble with theirs. Glad it is not troubling her and she can still chase fairy whippets round the garden when they come out to play at night!
