50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 33 : Outside the Broadway

We went to Nottingham this lunchtime, Kirsty and Claire treating Jane to a Mothering Sunday lunchtime meal at Le Bistrot Pierre.

Before the meal I had a quick wander around the Nottingham Lacemarket and managed to grab a portrait for my series.

This man was rolling a cigarette outside the Broadway Cinema (an arty rather than mainstream complex), so I approached him for a shot. I thought that I was more likely to get a 'yes' for a portrait outside an art cinema !

"Excuse me mate, I'm doing a project on street portraits, do you mind if I take a photo of you?"

"No problem, bud, do you want me to smile?"

This is the net result, my 33rd shot in my series

I shot this in raw because I've been trying some new post processing software. Rawtherapee, an open source (that means it's free) photo editor that processes just about every format of Raw files and has every camera. It also lets you use the G'MIC film emulastions that I use in GIMP

It was a busy background, so I did a close crop.

Hope you like my 33rd portrait

Great portrait. His smile is contagious!

I'll have to practice those words, Phil! Nothing wrong with that approach. Your portrait is good!

I like your audacity, Phil. I could never make myself go over to someone whom I don't know and ask him/her to pose for me. You got a great portrait shot of him and he has a great smile.

Yes, I like it. Once more you've captured the character of the 'sitter'. I find strangers are mostly happy to have their photo taken and can only remember being refused once. That was a chap who was trying to get me to join Greenpeace - I'd just said no.

A beautiful portrait!

Yes I really like this one too......a very interesting open face I see here...he looks a man happy with his lot! I have not shot in RAW for ages, the only reason being that it bunged up my iPad quiclky & I love using the iPad for everything now...I can sit by the fire instead of in the office where it's cold.

@happypat you are right Pat, RAW eats away at all our storage devices, especially when you are shooting every day

@nicoleterheide thanks for the beautiful comment Nicole

@quietpurplehaze I am always a tad apprehensive approaching a stranger though Hazel.

@sangwann go for it dione, I am sure your style will succeed :)

He has a good smile. I don't think the RAW data added anything extra here to be honest.
